Title: Top Gear results-mods make no difference- your thoughts?
Post by: Homer on March 07, 2011, 09:16:53 pm
HI all, not sure if this has already been discussed but I remember a top gear episode where they modified their cars and it made no difference. Now obviously doing a stage 1 and so forth does make a difference but in the show they upgraded other things I recall such as induction kits and I think exhausts as well. So in terms of items such as these, exhausts/induction kits, do they make a marked improvement to horsepower? Or do people just get them for the car to sound better or to look nicer? Thanks for any views on this

Load of sh*t isn't it really. Look at the facts and figures.
Using my car as an example. The intake gave me about 5bhp and 33lbft torque :evilgrin:
Decatting the exhaust system ( i have the standard system still :sick: ) gave another proven 3bhp.
Figures = Fact = F**k you Clarkson

TBE = 15 bhp in my case. Obviously no improvement there. :wink:

Ooooof Joe! Dr.Condesending :grin:
'Lbft' is a measurement in which torque can be measured (pounds per foot ? :chicken: )
And 'decatting' is removing the catalytic convertor. - Which happens to be a fairly restrictive part of the exhaust system, :happy2:

It was a joke result in the aid of making amusing TV? Just a thought....
Just like in the races, they don't actually leave cameramen patiently waiting in bushes dotted throughout the entire 1500 mile route waiting for him to pass by.

bear in mind they did it with a N/A engine. do the same to any car with a charger or some sort and you'll see huge gains
