Title: Auto-locking central locking
Post by: Mako V12V on March 08, 2011, 07:24:30 pm
Is it possible to program the GTI to auto-lock the car with the central locking when you drive off?
I believe mini, bmw and others do this.
Cheers - Phil

Yeah easy code with VCDS, you will also want to code the option to auto unlock with removal of the key from the ignition or you will be double pulling the handle every time you want to get out of the car.

If you have a highline dash, you can do it on there without vcds  :happy2:

Often thought about this    but do you think it would cause more wear to the door lock motors ? i.e locking every time car moves or like now  i only lock doors when parked ?.

if it was gonna cause excessive wear, they wouldn't have made it an option.  :happy2:

Thats the main reason why the 6n2 polo didnt have it as it had pneumatic central locking, which to have auto lock would excessively run the pump possibly causing it to have a shorter life.

The mk5 central locking works on the principle that, if the door is locked, you pull the handle once to unlock it then a second time to open the door.

You can either get people to double pull the handle to get out, or you can press the unlock button on the drivers door panel to unlock all doors

The padlock on the switch illuminates yellow when the doors are locked btw

Either way, if its one door or all doors unlocked, itll relock at 10mph

Thanks again for that. :happy2: So finally the autolock only comes on at a certain speed ? i.e if it's just ticking over it won't lock ?.
