Title: Looking to join the club......

I've been reading the forum for a while as I have started to look for a Mk5 GTi after many months of longing..... Before I take the plunge, I'll be looking for some advice because I want to make sure I pick the right one.

I live in Glasgow and currently drive a Honda Civic 1.6 Sport (anyone want one?!) which is a good car and bulletproof but just not got the poke I am looking for.

Well it's general advice re. what to look for at a certain age, price I should expect to pay, potential longer term 'issues' etc.

At the weekend I am going to view a black 3 door, 54 plate, 58k miles. It looks immaculate on pictures but seems a bit pricey at £9k. Is a major service due at 60k?

Also, I am likely to be paying it up over 3 years so is this a big risk for a 2005 car?

I am probably better posting these questions in the general area......
