I'm looking into buying the Semtimg VW headunit (http://www.semting.com/) as it looks a really nice piece of kit. I've tried searching the forum and got no results.
Does anyone have any experience with these units?

From pictures I've seen the interface looks pretty budget. Think there are some people in the US using it.
Better off with this if your budget can stretch that far (mine didn't, I went with a kenwood generic double din)

That price tag is very hefty, definitely wouldn't be able to afford that!
May I ask what kenwood unit you went with? As from what i've seen so far the semting unit, although a bit cheapish does look ok.

For what is effectively a rip off RNS, that Semting unit is hardly cheap.
What's your budget and what do you want it to do?

Well, id say my budget is pretty much the same price £300 area. Basically im looking to be able to plug my iphone 4 into it via its dock connector to aux or a cable directly into the HU.
Rest I'm not fussy about. I mainly looked at the Semting due to it being the same fitting as the RCD300 - no adapter etc needed!
Having DVD/satnav is no biggie. Mainly for audio from iphone and having preouts for subwoofer. Any recommendations, appreciate your help.

I had a Kenwood DDX5022 with iPod/iPhone control.
Also has the advantage of DVD.
Should be around £200-250.

Go for the RCD510.
Basically a RNS510 without the Nav...
Big jump from the RCD300 and fits into your budget....eBay!

I would stay well clear of these things. Search some of the USA forums for Waywell/Semting/Audio sources and you'll get a cold feeling for them. Seems they're cheaply made and after sales is non-existent. Plus if/when it goes wrong you pay the p&p to China which isn't cheap.
Better save a bit longer and stick with OEM or Fiscon.
Remember, the first cost and last cost aren't always the same. (Scousus Confuscius)

The thing with going OEM RCD510 is it's still the same power output as the RCD300 and no RCA's I'm presuming? It would be an excellent upgrade if it had :(
Also Scousus, thanks for the heads up! I didn't find much on them, saw a few people saying they are good and all but didn't find any negative reviews.
the DDX-5022 is about £490 and discontinued on most websites :( any other recommendations?

I have an RNS 310, has a 2mm media input on the front, SD card reader for music and satellite navigation, touch screen, mp3 no can gateway upgrade needed.

Got mine for just over £250 I think, but they are becoming a lot more common now so go for around £300-£350.

An RCD510 still needs an MDI for iPhone. In my opinion they're a very basic unit.
Would you not buy second hand!?

Second hand is fine yeah, just trying to find the kenwood unit second hand.

5024 and 5026 are newer versions.
6029 and 7029 are older versions, but still do the same thing.
DNX models have sat nav built in.

Glad I found this thread, hopefully I'm not too late to the party. :drinking:
You can't group us in the same category as Audiosources or Waywell, they use a much older software system, different internal parts, and don't have any form of quality control (on the other hand we do 24 hour burn in and function testing). Not only that but we aren't China based, we are based right in the United States of America. With that said, our parts are higher quality, for instance our touch screens are made by panasonic, not a no name vendor. If you want to stick to OEM thats fine and I could understand why, but if you're looking for a solid unit with excellent features, then a Semting unit should be top of your list. Not to mention the OEM fit, OEM light matching and OEM quality components. I've also sold to a number of people in the UK with no issues.
If I had to recommend a non-Semting unit though, go with the RCD510
