I ask the question because I enjoyed what we call in our house a 'dirty' dinner of sausages, mash and baked beans WITH gravy.

My brother called round as we were tucking in and was disgusted by the sight of this!

Just thought I'd ask!  :signLOL:

I'm down souff, Should really of been eating pie and mash!

the only thing you pollute beans with is cheese or brown sauce

unless its a "lady" bean... cos baby gravy is par for the course in that case :innocent:

Yup. I'd only get it from a really good chippy though, with good gravy. Or make it yourself.

Chinese curry is lovely too.

Don't like cheese or beans lol (suspect im missing out more with the cheese)

But then if we say spaghetti, then yeah gravy is allowed so in theory, if I liked beans i'd have gravy with them... So good choice!

I think it was a good variation, you need to speak to Heston Blumenthal and see if you can get him to make a meal of beans and gravy...(but then he'd probably add something like a bird foot or something to it!)

I would say if you are eating pie mash and beans a some gravy contaminated the beans then that is ok and TBH its not as disgusting as it sounds.

My missus calls me a Northern Monkey (I was originally born in Crewe) if I mop my gravy up with bread so I suspect I would be in trouble.

But I like Shepherds Pie sandwiches so does my opinion even count?

a useful tip for the baked bean fans out there. drop a splodge of Maggi Hot & Sweet sauce in there before cooking them. Adds a nice bit of flavour to the proceedings!  :pomppomp:

I'm partial to a dollop of carribean scotch bonnet sauce in my Branston beans (never Heinz as I think their crap) or if the missus is eating them then a squirt of Daddys brown sauce in the beans goes a treat.

They do a salt? Must look into that. Would also love to have peri-peri salt at home too.

Does anyone else cook baked beans (i use branston) is a saucepan with a knob of butter and some black pepper? If you slow-cook it, the sauce thickens a lot. And the insanity sauce gives an extra kick.

Yes... butter in the baked beans is a good idea, as is a healthy unhealthy amount of salt and pepper.

+1 on the Heinz not being as good as branston!
Mozzas own brand are better too IMO.
I have some A1 steak sauce, will try that one!  :drinking:

Yes Stealth, you HAVE to bring the beans to the boil so they start to soften and thicken the sauce! Its the law in my house.

Not a quick blast in the microwave  :fighting:

I've never liked baked beans either and have tinned spaghetti instead (I'm glad I'm not the only one - people think I'm wierd!), but the other day I bought a tin of haricot beans and made my own using this (http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1120672/jacket-potatoes-with-homebaked-beans) recipe. Much tastier and healthier than the tinned rubbish!

If I did eat baked beans out of a tin though I most certainly would not put gravy on them

^^^reminds me of a mate who has an irrational fear of baked beans. Can't stand them. I think he has had some issues with them stemming from his childhood!

Anyway love heinz tinned spaghetti in tomato sauce. Again, love to use lots of black pepper and a touch of Dave's Temporary Insanity Sauce. No butter though.

Its the dislike of cheese that I get the most stick for... Trust me i'd love to like cheese, just hate it!!

Haricot beans are nice, but prefer Butterbeans & red kidney beans! (Bit dry though - definately welcome those and gravy! mmm!)

Some interesting recipe ideas on here though, these chilli sauces are going to get looked into! ;)
