Title: Missing Slightly...
Post by: scotta on March 16, 2011, 09:40:03 pm
Gave the car a little burst of WOT coming home tonight in 6th gear and it seemed to miss a few times as it was pulling. Noticibly stuttered 3 - 4 times then pulled again. it then did it again coming up the hill in 5th once i had pulled off the motorway.

Car had been running for a good 20 - 30 mins previously so was well up to temp - wasnt overheating either as id had a good few miles along the dual carridgeway before it did it.

Edition 30 running bluefin Stage one and an ITG Panel filter. I upgraded to the OEM piston DV shortly after i bought it. Cars done 28k.

Any ideas?

I initially thought maybe a Coil Pack issue?

What year is your car... if its 05-07 then you should be eligible for the coil pack recall.

Most likely coil pack but get it scanned with vcds to be sure.

I had identical issue on Ed30 with same mileage on Bluefin phase1.  I would therfore try plugs before colipack as they are a bit cheaper I think.  If you can get coil packs under warranty then great also.  New plugs sorted it for me but if you are going DIY plug replacement watch out not to damage your engine cover like i did :stupid:

Good luck :happy2:

Typical - its on 08!

Would there be a code for it?

VCDS should pick up the misfire and report to as which was the effected cylinder.

Sounds like a plan to get it on VCDS then. Ive got an old VCDS cable i use for the wifes avant will need to see if it works on it.

You'll need a micro or hex CAN vcds cable at minimum to work on a mk5 GTI.

I had the same - swapped my coil packs first, but turned out to be the plugs.

Same here!! I had coilpacks changed at VW a few weeks ago, but still had a misfire - sometimes quite bad.
They wanted £90 including labour to put new plugs in at the same time, which I thought was a bit of a cheek as everything was removed to change the coilpacks.  :surprised: I think the goodwill fairy was off sick that day.

I bought some NGK's BKR7EIX Iridium plugs off EBay (£25.90 delivered!) and fitted them this morning. I took the long, long way to work then without any sign of a misfire. :jumpmove:

The last two problems I have to solve are the strange increase in power when I lift off a bit from full throttle, and hunting in first when the engine is cold, although I suspect these are fueling issues rather than ignition. Any opinions or ideas gratefully accepted.

I had VCDS throw up that it was Cylinder number 1 so I changed the Coilpack as it had new sparkplugs last year.

Seems to have cleared it but it was intermittent so I will see.
