and yet again....... another.......... problem.... the frigging engine management light is on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Engineers all gone, Couldnt take it home so been given another curtsey car.. hopefully its yet a reset but i BET they are gonna say i need to buy something to fix it!!!
Just cannot BELIEVE how shocking they are!!
rant over.. for now..
-
I feel for you mate.
Hope it's sorted out asap tomorrow.
-
im really just lost for words... i hope the service manager is there, i want words... :fighting: :fighting: :fighting:
-
Hopefully they have fitted it correctly. I have seen so many threads where fault codes have appeared after cambelt was fitted incorrectly. Usually it turns out the belt was put on one tooth out of position.
Good luck hope you get it sorted.
-
Flip me... just remind me which VW it is again so i can put it on my avoid list!
-
VW Citygate Bushey/Watford!
Ok now im worried with your wrong tooth info! they will prob just reset the thing instead of checking it then! ffs

Ohh dear... they did my coil packs 2 days ago! :scared:
-
ha! you got out lucky
-
Don't panic its an easy fix if it is a tooth out.
-
maybe it is, but them actually fixing it rather than just resetting the warning light is questionable
-
If they reset it the codes will come back straight away. If they reset it and they disapear you know the belt is fine :drinking:
-
lets home so, just want them done and finished for another year! llol
-
Summits not wright here.....
After fitting a cambelt/service or any running gear parts a full road test must be carried out as per HSA standards, they would of road tested your car, my guess is a faults registerd after it's been r/t
Didn't a service advisor bring the car around?
-
no idea, i collected it at 6pm, they all had gone home apart form service desk
-
You seem to have a worse run of luck than me!
-
you have no idea... :sad1:
-
So went to get it. waited 30mins or so for them to tell me if it's a reset or more..
guess what, u hit the nail on the head. cambelt is a tooth or so out... they even said they took it for a test drive...
spoke to the service manager... again... all he could say it they marked and checked it and even asked him to look so they don't know how its out, blah blah.. even asked if vwr had changed trimming or nething??? wtf??
only thing i get in the way of apology or goodwill was a "sorry", f'ing joke
-
Letter to vwuk i think... that could have been engine game over!
-
they are all sh*t, i have spoken to them so many times too and get no where
-
The main thing is it's fixed with no damage. :happy2:
-
its not fixed. they still have it. late again for work, time, inconvenience and the fact they shouldn't get this wrong to begin with!
-
Oh right, did they use new stretch bolts in the engine mounts like they are supposed to?
-
don't even go there. i highly doubt it! but id rather not even know to ask...
if they don't offer me anything by the time i go collect the car then i will say myself how disappointed i am they havnt even had the curtsey to offer me some sort of compensation, so i want to know what they are going to do.. and no i don't want a free service (i have a plan)

that's about right :rolleye:
-
that's about right :rolleye:
I know this don't help, but i recently had my cam belt done at VW Ridgeway Wantage
and they did a superb job,not sure how far away they are from you but for anyone close
to them,it might be worth the drive :happy2:
-
Oh it gets better!
The guy who worked on my car is not in today.... they want him to work on it, no one else??? so they want to keep it till Monday!!!!! I said surely your engineers have the experience to do the job not just one guy but as THIS guy did it, they want HIM to do it again!?!?!?
pending call from service manager
-
Tell them you want the car back today... no questions asked!
-

Tell them you want a golf R or ttrs for the weekend to replace your ed.
-
If this guy is the senior guy then i guess it would be better for him to look at it. if i demand it back and they rush it, that will be even worse.
-
As them if he plans to do the job correctly the 2nd time?
-
have you paid the bill yet ?
-
yes unfortunately yesterday just before i drove it away (well tried)
-

True.. i didnt think of it in those terms!
-
dread to think
-
What a fook up! I'd get onto VWUK and raise your concerns...
-
i would certainly say you want the labour money back, the whole thing has been a joke and
inconvenience to yourself, tell them you plan to contact VWUK, if they don't give you the money back
-
nice ideal! hum, wonder how much that amounts too... £205.. he wont like that, haha
-

you pay VW a higher rate of labour because they are suppose to be the experts in there field
and know there stuff, i would argue you would of had a better service leaving your car
at the chimp section of london zoo. :happy2:

Quality!! :signLOL:
-
they called the guy in from his dar off...they say.... and he wants to offer me £50 compen... big f*cking woop
-
say you want £100 or you are going to report them to VWUK for very bad service.
-
i tried, said that's all he can offer. so yea, i think i will just call. think the service director is in Ruislip spoken to her before. Lorraine...
-
I'd take to VW, it needs to be reported they can't even do a cambelt...
-
i have rung them so many times about issues, they don't do much about it either.. but i will..£50 is almost an insult
-
The fact that they have offered you money has admitted they are at fault and know it! how much was the total bill for the job as it will help to compare how much of an insult £50 is.

I don't think you should be paying the labour element of this job at the very least.
As has already been pointed out you take the car to the OEM franchise to avoid mistakes like this. It's a simple mistake but your car should not have left the service bay in this state let alone be parked up and ready for you to collect it.

good job nothing went seriously wrong, valves clashing etc...

-
good job nothing went seriously wrong, valves clashing etc...
I don't think that's gonna happen with one tooth out, It's just a case of the best not being tight enough when fitting, new belts don't bend much.
-
collected and.......................
marked my alloy... not really badly but marked!!! and the service manager is now off!!
lost for words
-
Really not your day is it.
-
day??? this has been two weeks now, not to mention other things going on.
-
...go to the park, find a stick, stir it in the dog poo bin and get it loaded, get to the dealer ship, waft and wave until your demands are met.
full refund.
-
Feel for you Steve - first thing to do is to write to VWUK after giving them a call on Monday. Catalogue this huge long comedy of errors and cite that you expect immediate recompense for the problems/inconvenience - set them a timescale for reply - then if they don't meet it. Trading standards. As has been stated already, people pay the premium for dealers to (a) ensure full VW warranty (need it if you want paint work claims after 3 years according to some_ - (b) Paying for more qualified and experienced technicians to work on your car -you would expect nothing par excellance from them.....
Whole situation is farcical!
Dom
-
What a comedy of errors. Hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction. Things like this take the edge off having something nice. :fighting:
When I picked my car up after the cambelt change they had routed the DV hose wrongly so you couldn't get to the dipstick! Luckily I had popped the bonnet before I drove away.
-
dont faff about go straight to dealer principal ask if they are a member of any trade bodies rmi etc. if so contact them if no joy trading standards
-
TBH this isnt a case for trading standards, its more of a company causing you an inconvinience than trying to 'rip you off'
Push for some cash back and inform VW UK about your experience and then dont use them again and tell everyone else about your experience. Trading standards wont do a thing for you, or to them as they havn't done anything illegal or underhand.
-
You should def get a full refund for the work at least as compensation.
But please stop calling them 'engineers' - as an engineer its a pet hate of mine to see every tom, dick and harry wandering about calling themselves engineers when they are nothing of the sort . In pretty much every other country the term engineer is protected but in blighty the bog cleaner (and frequently the unblocker) can call himself an engineer :fighting:. Mechanics or 'technicians' if you must. :happy2:
-
Or fitters as to be honest that's what a lot of em are :popcornsoda:
-
I'm subscribed to regular email updates for vacancies with the term engineer. I get some right crap in there. This mornings installment had such delights as -
Solutions Engineer / Server Build Engineer - Windows 2008 / 3, VMWare
Data Engineer (ETL)
Senior IP Designer / Technical Architect / Solution Architect / IP Engineer
Algorithm Development Engineer
ACS Gas Service and Breakdown Engineer
ACS GAS SAFE Meter Engineer
I'd be interested to know what level of recognition ECUK offers for this crap.

-
Yes, even though i always tell them not too!! and nah, these are from someone working in the engine bay
-

Lost for words mate.
Really sorry to see this has happened, it's not as if you've had enough grief to deal with lately. :sad1:
