OK folks. I'm just finalising a checklist before I plunge headlong into the search for a car. Looking for a 3 door 2006 + car, with a maximum mileage of around 60K. Manual or DSG.
What questions about specific issues, recalls and any major service jobs should I be asking MK5 GTi sellers or garage dealers...? I would be really grateful if you could please add any other Q's that you think could be relevant :happy2:
My list starts out as follows.
1. Has the cam belt, cam belt tensioner and water pump been changed?
2. Has the DSG mechatronic unit ever been replaced?
3. Has the DSG box had its 40K / four year service?
4. Has the steering rack had problems?
5. Have their been any problems with the ABS Control Unit?
6. Has the car been service more regularly than the long life service intervals?
7. Does the passenger airbag sensor work properly?
8. Have the door seals ever leaked or needed replacing?
9. Does the climate control work on both sides of the car?
10. Are the wheels corroded or kerbed?
11. Has the drivers seat squab compressed with age?

I only found out recently but I think my AC isnt up to scratch. Check the compressor still blows very cold and quickly as it might be broken and is apparently quite expensive to fix.
Good luck!

Could be compressor gone but could also just need re-gassing.
