Hi, new to the forum but had a question........
I'm looking at a RCD 510 with DAB.......it will be fitted to a MK5 GTI 55plate.
What do i need to get it operating? DAB aerial or anything?
Thanks
Jack

I think the aerial is via exactly the same as for the normal "analogue" radios. On a 55 plate GTI you are likely to have the CANBUS gateway power drain issue, which only a newer CANBUS controller will fix (about £70 for the part but needs coding). You will need to do the same as people retrofitting RNS510 sat navs (but without the GPS antenna!), i.e. new CANBUS and an adaptor to plug the second generation aerial lead into the new radio. Search this forum and you will find threads where people have asked similar questions about retrofitting RNS510s and RCD510s into GTIs. Note, the firmware downgrade workaround for the RNS510 battery drain issue is not possible on the RCD510.

Thanks for that, very helpful. Its coming out of a mk6 golf, if that changes anything...where can I get a canbus from? Thanks

As long as you get the four digit radio code for it then it doesn't matter what vehicle it's removed from. The CANBUS change is the difficult bit because you need VCDS to code it, which unless you know someone who has this then it will set you back about £250 to buy [a genuine Rosstech] VCDS lead.
I bought my CANBUS from this seller on ebay. Offered him £70 and he accepted. Took about 5 days by courier from Poland.

You will need a proper Dab antenna, they are a bit like the gps antenna but have a DAB specific plug which is green.

I also would like to get the RCD510 with DAB, anyone know the part number for this?
