hi can anyone help me find the code for my newly purchased RNS 510, I bought it on ebay but it did't come with the all important code.....
serial number is VWZ6Z7H4314108
any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
-
Can you not ask the seller you bought it off?
-
Itll be a trip to your local dealer. Hopefully they can give you the code as some RNS510s that go on ebay are actually stolen and the codes cannot be provided once they are marked as such
-
Failing that I think Darren's (MortyGTTdi) new super toy might be able to help.
-
Why on earth did you buy it without the code? Was it advertised as having a code included? If so contact the seller and if it's not forthcoming return it and get a refund. Please tell me it's not from Lithuania,,,,, If you're totally stuffed there are a few people on here who might just help you out once they read your situation.(Darren)
Regards,
John

thanks for all the replies
I didn't know that it would need a code.... I have removed and reconnected my RCD300 without having to put a code in so.
I have contacted the seller so hopefully he may be able to help. Will VW give me the code just based on the serial number?
-
They might help with some sort of proof of ownership but I think they'll want to plug VAS into it so it can go online to the server and get the code.
-
I got the code from the seller, but now I have the battery drain issue....
I presume its because my canbus is an old revision due to my car being a late 06 model and the software version on the RNS is 2760
I'm going to try and do a downgrade tonight, in case i'm not successful is there any way the unit can be manually powered down until I can get it sorted?
-
You can pull the fuse, I'd probably do that before fecking with SW downgrades, you'll be devastated if you end up with a door stop.

I have that too

well I have successfully changed the firmware for the version in the very handy post, which vRS Carl very kindly posted, however I am not sure if it has solved the battery drain issue or not....
I left the car for about an hour in the hope that it would go off but when I switched it on it seem to start up pretty quickly, does anyone know if the Welcome to VW message should appear if the unit powers down properly?
-
I think it's nearer two hours before it fully powers down, after this you should see the splash screen when starting up again :happy2:
-
Thanks for that
Looks like I'll have to wait until the morning to find out if it worked ....

What Steve said...... BUT
You wont get the VW Screen if you leave the radio on,as the radio comes on instantly, i would suggest as a test
to leave the stereo on sat nav screen DONT TURN THE UNIT OFF,Turn the engine off ,Remove key from ignition so that the head unit
turns itself off,go away for 2+ hours,go back unlock the door and quickly put the key in the ignition and turn it so the dash lights up, and stereo turns on
The reason i say unlock and put the key in instantly is because as soon as you unlock the car and open the drivers door, the unit starts itself up ready to
switch on and hence you wont get the splash screen
hope it helps

Great tip I'll give this a go
-
Interesting point about the splash screen and instantly putting the keys in creatz interesting indeed!
-
I'll tell you more about it tomorrow at the meet matey :happy2:
