Title: Hidden highline menu's
Post by: Phil Miller on March 20, 2011, 11:35:32 am
Hi all yesterday Lee (apollo13) fitted and coded my GTI highline cluster, now i love it to bits and looks smart as, the up and down buttons change the trip and mpg but doesnt change the song track up and down, my OH's 57 tdi does is there a hidden menu i need to go into to activate it? also on my MFD2 headunit it just says the station mhz number rather than the station name, is there a way to make it read the name rather than numbers? any help would be great  :happy2:

Did you go into the audio menu before trying to change tracks?

Hi
The issue here is down to the very early version of MFD2 that you have. It will require coding to say there is a mfsw. It still may not work as the early mfsw had a different button set up.

Thanks for the info, it was all coded my cluster is a 972 and MFSW is the later type with the mute and phone button (neither do anything tho) my OH's highline allows you to set the lengh of time the lights stay on after switch off and how bright the puddle lights are but i cant find it on mine just wondered if theres a hidden menu i have to activate to adjust them all just seems strange i can use the up and down buttons for the trip but not the track

The Audio issue is with the old mfd2, if you were to fit a newer version that would solve the audio issue.
As for the Lights and Vision that should work unless it has been coded to stay hidden in the CECM (09)
Convenience options like locking and rain closing would require a MAX CCM (46)

Ed its the early MFD2 for sure.

Phil, you have auto wipers and lights but did you have fogs as standard?? I was surprised the SE model only came with a lowline cluster......

I saw it in the members ride, I'm sure it due to the age of the mfd2. When I did a MFSW retrofit to another 2004 car it had a mfd2 from the factory and I couldn't get the audio menu. The odd thing was that it had a highline from the factory but had a standard CCM so no convenience option.

having a Low CECM wouldn't rule out the lights and vision option, probably is coded to inactive in the long coding.

To be honest I did'nt even check for the lights and vision menu, it was a bit hurried as I had to get to work.

Mostly due to a poorly fitted hands free kit (not by Phil).

The live feed cable got chewed up in the steering column adjustment mechanism, blowing the cluster fuse  :fighting:

Thanks lads, i hadnt thought about the MFD tbh mine doesnt have front fogs but does have auto lights and wipers, i moved that handsfree wire today and there is a mark on the metal case near the column (i would think when the wire cut thro) is the lights part something i could do with VCDS or does it need something more powerful? if it is could someone point me in the right direction please

Lee i was gonna call but after all the hassel yesterday with the steering light and cluster fuse i didnt want to hassel you, one things for sure if it is down to the MFD that gives me the perfect reason to give the OH for upgrading to the 510 ideal

I was looking at the old cluster that night and it has the vw sticker on it with part number and build date and seems it must have had a replacement as the cluster is 2006 yet mine is a may 04 car

Vag com will be rquired to check the long coding for the lights and vision.

Buy the RNS510 and the audio menu should turn up when you press the menu button

Yes mate the missing audio menu is due to the old MFD2, so a newer MFD2 or RNS510 is in order

The lights and vision can be activated with VCDS, Cent Electronics 09.

Thats ok mate call when you want  :happy2:

Phil all you need for the RNS retro is the unit itself plus a new gateway revision L or newer. Your current gateway is a C revision.

You can getaway without a new gateway but you will have to run a modified FW to stop the battery drain.

Have a read through this mate  :happy2:

Ebay.de is the best place for a new gateway, look for a newer version such as AD or AF. The last letter goes as such A to Z then AA to AF so far. So L is newer than C but AA is newer than L. Hope that makes sense.

Yours is a C and you'll need a L or newer to stop the drain.

FW (firmware) is the software the RNS runs on. There are modified versions out there to stop battery drain without changing the gateway.
