VW took my car for an MOT and returned it back to me. I have just been out to start it but it cuts out after one second. There is also no power to the instrument cluster. Is that the immobiliser? What have they done to it? Any ideas on how to fix it.
Im not best pleased! I will be calling them tomorrow!
-
It's not the immobiliser as the car starts.
Only thing I can suggest is to get it vcds scanned if the garage won't help.
-
Its the Immobiliser has the clocks are not connected the ECU is not able to check the clocks or key for the right Immob pin sequence so although it starts it will shut down straight away.
Check the fuse ollie, I'm not sure which one it is but there is a fuse for the dash cluster?

My guess is the fuse for the cluster. The immobiliser is built into the cluster so that has no power too. If the ecu does not get the ok from the immobiliser it will cut out after a second.
EDIT: Darren beat me to it

^^
Sorry mate :happy2:

Ill have to learn to touch type :signLOL:

Yes its definately the cluster fuse. Its a 20 amp in the fuse box in the engine bay.
Not sure on the number though, had to change one at the weekend when fitting newbie Phils highline as it blew when i dropped the steering column and trapped the live feed to a badly installed hands free kit :fighting:
-
Apparently its a 5A fuse in position F17 engine bay side for the Instrument Cluster Control Module according to ELSA.
-
That's the beauty of VW.
The manual didn't even list the fuse for the cluster in any location! I had to pull each one out in turn to find it :stupid:
-
I had that earlier replacing the interior light fuse. It doesnt even show it as installed at all!
-
It's a nightmare mate.
I had fun when I fitted my heated seats, the factory locations for the heated seats were taken up already with other stuff.
I'm sure they make it up as they go along :rolleye:
-
Thanks guys! You're all stars! :happy2:
I'll have a look in the morning at the fuse!
Cheers
Ollie :happy2:

F17 hasnt gone. Does anybody have any diagrams for fuse locations? Its a 2004 mk5 1.6 FSI SE if that makes any difference.
-
Just pull them out one by one...
I think from memory it was 30 something.....
Like I said they just stick them anywhere!
-
Have a look at Fuse 3 and Fuse6 in the cabin fuse box. both are 5A

iirc it was 31, as you stand over the N/S wing its at the engine side of the fuse box 2/3 one in from the end and its deffo a 20 amp fuse...... i must remember to replace my horn fuse tomorrow as we borrowed that one lol

That may have been the case with your TDi but the OP has a 1.6FSI
Fuse 3 in the passenger compartment

Cheers guys, VW sent a techie out today and the car started first time with all power to the clocks, after I boll*cked VW! :ashamed:
The radio does not work though. Does anyone know the fuse for the radio? I assume it is in the fuse box by the steering wheel.
-
strange?
fuse for radio is Fusebox B (engine compartment) Fuse 8 (15A)
-
Radio is fuse 18/19 on most Golfs (engine side)
