Post by: titchy on March 21, 2011, 02:18:38 pm: just got my car back from dealer after minor service usual nonsense about tyres being close to limit not according to my guage, rear tyres out of shape? new spark plugs needed car has done 32000mls. driving home tyre press. warning light came on checked tyres 4.0 of pressure all round not 2.4 as handbook rang them waiting for explanation. no wonder people dont like taking their cars to dealers. you pay for the best and they make basic errors like this

Post by: stealthwolf on March 22, 2011, 01:44:59 am: Holy fook that's crazy. When I took mine in for its first service, the steering felt very heavy and the car didn't feel as responsive as before. Turned out that they had dropped the tyre pressures down to 32 psi.

Post by: titchy on March 22, 2011, 09:18:01 am: had a call off them 7-10 last night they insist their technician put 2.4 bar in i insist he put 4.0 bar in deadlock. he also states new s/plugs were needed due to the car being over 4yrs old. despite my engine code in the handbook stating 6yrs or 60000mls i am awaiting a call from the service manager this morning waste of time as the tech. is going to stick to his story im sticking to mine. as for the rear tyres being out of shape when i looked last they were black and round theyre still black and round this morning

Post by: rich83 on March 22, 2011, 09:22:06 am: They could be out of shape, it's not uncommon on the mk5! Easy to diagnose by jack a rear corner up and spinning the wheel!

Post by: JackG on March 22, 2011, 06:59:07 pm: Check the tyres first before you start saying the tech is wrong! Why would they lie about tread depths? They know your going to check them? Ask them to demo how they are out of shape and the tread depth

I have always changed mine at 3mm, everywhere other than the UK sets the legal limit at 3mm. And especially with the winters we are starting to see, would not be comfortable in the snow with 2mm of tread.
