Good evening fellow Vdubbers,
I have the basic RCD500 6-CD changer in my Edition 30 and while I save up for a new RNS510 (or Remap ) is there a way of fitting a 3.5mm audio jack to it using the connections at the back?
Ive had a search on the forum and havent found anything about it.
Thanks
Richard

I had one on my old MK5 and AFAIK the 3.5mm jack input uses the CD changer socket part of the block connector on the rear of the stereo. Yours will be connected up to you Changer so i dont think it will be possible.

Oh shizzle :sad1: I thought I was being clever but no wonder nobody tired it before it can't be done with the CD changer headunit

Ohh wait a minute... if yours has the 6 stack in built? You might be able to do it still as the CD changer slot will be empty!
-
Yeah I have the headunit which has the in-built 6 CD changer, how would I be able to wire in the audio jack to the ports at the back then?

Why thank you!
So it's simple plug and play using the spare port on the back of the headunit and fed the audio jack to the ash tray area :happy2:
Thanks Rich, as always full of useful information! :notworthy:

Yes in theory! IF.... IF the CD changer slot is free, then it should be as easy as that!

Don't worry will take out the headunit this weekend and have a look to see what's free at the back, should know what do to this time round after replacing my Climatronic last Saturday

I have had a quick look on Ebay and found a picture from the back of the RCD500 6CD changer which shows which sockets are not used (sort off) are they the correct ones for the Aux input to work with?

How about -

You could make this very easily yourself and use the OEM socket rather than the plug pictured here.
The plug for the radio end, two repair wires and the OEM socket from VW and 2 metres of 2 core screened cable from Maplin.
Simpless
-
Will that work tho? Thats for the MFD2 that has a dedicated AUX in.
-
Hmm, just looked at some pinout diagrams of the 500 and it seems as though the pins are there they aren't labeled so I guess it depends on the version of RCD500, some have silver and some dark buttons but I seem to remember pressing CD twice will toggle between CD and Aux.
I was going to suggest the socket used here -

I've had a look some stuff I have here and I think you need to have the newer RCD500 MP3 (logo just below the CD slot) to have an Aux in.
-
But the adapter i linked to makes an aux in from the CD changer slot.
-
The adapter uses CD 1 as its play source :happy2:

I didn't say it didn't, I was offering an alternative.

Need help!
Just receive the kit and it has an extra wire from the unit which is the black wire, not sure where it's meant to go and the diagram provided isn't much help!

Looks like its an earth mate.

Looks like its an earth mate.
I'm guessing I can just crimp it into the thick brown cable coming from the main headunit?
-
I'm almost 100% sure than it should be connected to earth!

All sorted and working now! Thanks guys you were spot on as usual!

I bought one of those off eBay and it's poor . There's loads of interference from the ignition system (or turbo) (a whistling noise that changes pitch with the engine revs), I can't control my iPhone with the cd player buttons and to top it off, it doesn't charge my iPhone- even with the optional charging head on it.
Does yours work ok?
