As above... weve got a netgear one from about 7 years ago and I don't think its particularly fast.
Im a big out of touch with stuff like this, so which ones are the best for about 50quid ish! :happy2:

I was looking at these a couple of weeks ago, but there are a few models of the Airport Ex. I got fuddled and still have not done anything about it!

when you say its not fast what do you mean? Its going to be wireless G at least which mean any broadband connection you have wont be throttled by the wifi. Only if your streaming or need gigabit eithernet would you need to upgrade.
Whats the reason you think its slow
-
The express is also good had one of those years ago but they have now been upgraded to 'n' rated, again a simple setup and the airplay feature where you can plug a speaker cable from your hifi to your express router and play your itunes music wirelessly is fantastic :happy2:
-
APE is good but its not got an inbuilt ADSL modem has it? (ive already got AP express and Time Capsule so i know that they are great products, but the APE doesnt quite tick all the boxes)
I do quite a lot of transferring of files between my Macbook Pro and my Mac Mini, and It just seems a bit slow. The router with have is G... so would moving to an N have any noticeable difference?

Provided that all your network pcs have N wifi cards then you should be able to transfer files at a higher speed.
-
Yes.... all are N rated!
-
A newer Netgear dual simultaneous N gigabit would be a good choice. I've been using Netgear for years, and still do slot of beta testing of the new unreleased routers for them....has it's perks :signLOL:
-
They all seem way over budget... im not blowing 150 on a router! :surprised:
-
I might have some spare models lurking amongst my routers Rich if you were interested?
-
Speak to me! :happy2:

Agreed, the Air Port Express is the best router I have ever had. I have three in my house (Sagem, Netgear & Apple) and the Apple is by far the most reliable and strongest of the lot.
I got mine second hand of eBay like this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Apple-AirPort-Express-802-11n-Wi-Fi-/160561264616?pt=UK_Computing_Apple_Mac_Accessories&hash=item25623277e8 and i will probably get the extreme version the 'Time Capsule' next for its wireless 'timemachine' capabilities.

Do you need a router or a modem+router?

Do you need a router or a modem+router?
Affirmative!
-
Which one?
-
Oops my fault... modem and router!
Ive been offered a Netgear dgn3500 for a good price... thoughts?
-
Im biased to say the DGN3500 is awesome lol :signLOL:
Gigabit, ADSL2+, Wireless N 300Mbps, USB Storage sharing
-
I bought this one last week:
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9255100/Trail/searchtext%3ENETGEAR.htm
Easy setup and does what I need it to.
-
Useless contribution, but I need to bump up my count to get into my inbox, but I agree with the Apple option.

The Netgear DG834 I've had for over 5 years has started to crash now and again.
Took the easy option to not buy a new Wireless router but change ISP and move to BT and get their home hub 3 instead For free
-
DG834s were very solid, provided you kept the firmware bang up to date. Alot are still used in Corporate setups as they just keep going and going
-
My netgear has been up 24/7 for over three years so I'm biased towards them.
-
Draytek kit really is good, bit more money but you can do loads with them if needed. probably a little over the top for what you need by the sounds of it.
latest netgear will do the job.
-
my old netgear went pop yesterday after 7 years of service, timing couldn't have been better :fighting:
picked up a Netgear 33300v2 yesterday, was going so well until i tried to connect a vista machine, all now sorted and a great bit of kit
