I know this is easy and takes 10mins, but unless youve done these things once they can be a bit daunting
*I take no responsibility*
TOOLS
Torx 20 Screwdriver
Torx 30 Screwdriver
HOW TO
Start by removing the air intake fixing bolts (torx 20)... one each side.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm6.static.flickr.com%2F5226%2F5552617029_4064ece130_z.jpg&hash=23b7fb059a3f31b37f7bec119e250400314a1cb7)
Push it toward the back of the engine bay and swing it to the right.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm6.static.flickr.com%2F5067%2F5553201546_95778e2e9d_z.jpg&hash=0f84f784d341166e8c4f3daf2d13bd2223809240)
Remove the bolt (Torx 30) marked by the red arrow, this bolt attaches the DV to the engine block.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm6.static.flickr.com%2F5171%2F5553201916_225b8f9bb4_z.jpg&hash=4a8dde4e2f21e77544a3e54ce3c1844442030976)
Removal of the bolt allows you to move the DV toward the front of the engine bay so you can access the other 3 torx 30 bolts.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm6.static.flickr.com%2F5069%2F5552617917_69628d12ba_z.jpg&hash=23fe50748a37bed6eaba3653517dc325a1214252)
Now is a good time to remove the electrical connector from the DV, just push the tab down and pull it off.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm6.static.flickr.com%2F5051%2F5552618429_02f69c89d7_z.jpg&hash=2b437654755560050263058e65973851dd05c793)
Starting with the bolt on the right (as shown below) remove the three bolts one by one in a clockwise direction.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm6.static.flickr.com%2F5228%2F5552618171_3c50bab086_z.jpg&hash=be78ac47bc775432b22cc89674c41045a342209d)
(NB... ignore inconsistance in the photos... your clip will be unclipped :P )
Once you have removed all Torx 30 bolts the DV will simply lift straight out.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm6.static.flickr.com%2F5068%2F5553203046_daf7bee4d6_z.jpg&hash=4574f72489e4748e520650daefea871c781e6133)
Inspect the orange diaphragm for tears and either refit, or purchase the revision D DV which is part number 06H 145 710 D revision G is now considered the best OEM version
====================================
To replace simply reverse the above. Make sure that the DV is seated correctly when you replace the bolts, and take care not to thread the bolt which attaches the DV to the engine mounting bracket

Well done, will be trying this at the weekend!
Thanks

Thats odd! I can see all the photos on his thread
-
*Fixed photos*
(I made them private on flickr so they disappeared here)
-
Told you it was easy.. :)
-
Dead easy... but I like "how to" guides! :signLOL:
-
Thanks i need a guide like this as my diy skills are horrendous.
out of interest does the revision d DV offer anything over the original in terms of performance or is it merely a more sturdy design?
-
From what i can gather its just a more robust design. The diaphragm revision is more prone to failure if you are remapped.
-
Having swapped mine to a Rev D it boosts much harder than before, even with my Rev C in perfect condition :signLOL:
-
Think this is my next upgrade! great write up!!!
-
Fantastic guide buddy. All printed off and ready to check/replace my dv on my ED30. Quick question... do you use a bit of thread lock when putting back on? Can't remember if I've read you do somewhere before?
Cheers
-
Top write up! Will be trying this! Is there an age when the rev D was used or will all mk5's have the rubber diaphragm?
-
Great guide... very easy to do... only took me about 30 mins max!

30 mins?! Did you make the divertor valve from scratch? :drinking:
-
Keano did you get my PM?
-
oh you know what I mean Keano... it was quick and easy.... mind you not noticed any difference... still it'll hopefully last the duration
-
Thanks for the write up, just had a look at my Edition 30 and I am using a C. Am going to replace it with the D from awesome gti, also thinking about getting one of the forge adapter to put on it too.
Any one have any opinions about them as I have read mixed reviews.

Don't bother with a D, they leak. Buy a G from your local dealer :happy2:
Forge adapter leaks boost too, the TFSI's don't really work well with them. Tuners are ad using people to steer clear of them
-
Yeah I just re-read richs post where he had crossed out the D, okay sweet thanks mate. NO D or Forge Adapter :happy2:
-
Anyone have the G part number
-
Rev. G Diverter Valve --- 06H 145 701 G
-
Fitting my G now don't know what's the existing DV is like but might as well replace it anyway to be safe :happy2:
-
Quality Rich
I got quoted £250 by VW for this !!!!
cheers

I've seen a write up on this on the forum - looks a bit too technical to do for my DIY skills lol
