Hi folks, I recall a chat with a mate, who knows a fair bit about cars, where he said the GTI was limited to 200BHP because any more BHP would lead to torque steer. Now I know many of you have had a remap and so are on much more horsepower than 200. So my question is was my mate mistaken or do many of you experience this torque steer? Thanks

I've close to 300 on a stage 2 ed30. Don't suffer from it, just a slight bit of wheelspin :driver:

Even VW made Edition 30 and Pirelli versions of the GTI with 230bhp.
Your mate sounds :stupid: 200bhp for FWD was believed to be the limit years ago. Does your mate walk around with a zimmer frame? :grin:

i seem to suffer from it quite a bit on stg 1 with the ED.
Could this mean i need my geometry checking by wheelsinmotion if everyone else seems ok?

If your alignment is out the chances are that it wont pull 100% straight.

you'll get a bit of torque steer in the wet if you have an LSD. I found VWRs red temptress to be a bit wayward whilst it was searching for grip. But other than that, the chassis doesnt suffer it at all.

had walk fitted and alignment was not check but getting arb's and tt wishbones on in April so as soon as they are fitted am off for a full geometry check then :happy2:

Where can I get my wheels aligned because my gti ever so slightly pulls to the left. How long does it take and how much is it?

An LSD gives the car the ability to put more of the power to the road and so inevitably the car can suffer from more torque steer than a car without it and utilises traction control to cut power to the wheel that loses grip, rather than transfer it to the one that has. It is very controllable and not at all as bad as some FWD cars I've driven.

An LSD doesnt eliminate torque steer, it provides more grip by adjusting the torque that is applied to the wheels. If one wheel looses grip in the wet it will load up the wheel with the grip with all the torque instead. in the case where i drove it,, it was a bumpy road as well as wet, and the car was searching like crazy over the road. Had to really fight it.

i find the torque steer quite a handful. I have the WVR LSD... bit of a pain really.
