Title: Cheap Oil
Post by: GTiBEER on March 24, 2011, 09:22:07 pm
The oil light is on so lovely girlfriend picks up some oil n the way home from work. She unknowingly buys 1L of sainsburys own oil because I didn't tell her otherwise. Is it worth chucking in this cheap stuff just to top it up or should I buy some castrol reccomended stuff? How many litres does it take to fill her back up? Cheers

It's 750mls from lower limit of dipstick to upper limit. Where's the oil level on your dipstick?

I would stick with the correct Castrol-Mobil oil.

Agreed. 501 is an old spec for 10W40 oil and doesnt cover Longlife oils.

You should always check your oil regularly in future  :happy2:

Waiting for an oil light isn't good, damage can already be done at this point  :innocent:

I only had a Full Service in Dec, I had no idea it would be so thirsty. I will try in future to be more careful  :ashamed:

Just forked out £45 for 4 Litres of the 504 507 Castrol Edge stuff. Cannot believe how pricey it is. There is a special offer on there website so next time i will order some more in advance than pay Halfshaft all my beans.  :fighting:

Is that a whole barrel straight from Gadaffi's personal stash? What or who is TPS?

Haha yes straight from the man himself  :signLOL:

TPS is VWs trade outlet direct from the factory. Its for mechanics etc (like me) so we get super cheap prices on genuine servicing parts and a discount on all other parts - all OEM and original with normal warranty etc

Oil is about 50% cheaper from them, and its made by castrol, though branded VWs service brand of quantum. High quality and great prices

www.thetradepartsspecialists.co.uk - it is a trade counter, but if you have a local one, you can just turn up and they will sell it to you as counter sales :)

I resent that comment the light hasn't come back on since the other day and the oil wasn't right at the bottom so   :booty:
