Title: Exhaust rubber bush has torn
Post by: Rob GTI on March 25, 2011, 08:36:22 pm
Had my car up on the ramp today and noticed this:-

The car has a Milltek TBE and VWR lower rear mount (Fast road), anyone else had any issues of this bush breaking like so, also can this bush be bought on its own? Does it look as if it has been fitted correctly?

Cheers

I think you need the whole bracket.

This is known to happen with the Milltek. I have heard of this a few times but the replacement part is cheap.

I'm just looking at the close up pic (bottom) one again and it seems the metal underneath the bush is distorted possiblly where someone has used a screwdriver to lever the rubber on the hanger??

Do you have a torque mount insert installed?
iirc RedRobin had a similiar issue with his car and it occured because of engine movement.

I've got the VWR lower rear bush which is what RR replaced his insert for so should therefore be better. The VWR bush was fitted before the Milltek even!!

Ive seen this happen with a couple of GTi's, both had millteks fitted - i think its actually a problem with the length of the mounting arms - they are slightly longer than a standard exhaust - but i'd have thought the uprated bushing would have helped due to the lack of movement!!
