I recently upgraded to R20 brakes (same as R32/S3) and am having trouble with the retaining clips. They are a pain in the backside to put on as they scratch the paint and also, I have had two sets fall out as I'm driving. :fighting: :fighting:
I'm pretty sure they were put in right as there is only one way they will fit! Wondered if anyone else is having similar issues as they are not cheap to replace anymore but look so good when they are in
-
The ones I fitted to my unfitted calipers don't seem to fit in the hole on the pad properly and only sit on the pad clip.
The original type sit in the hole.
Could be this, if it is I will put the originals back on.
-
This is odd. Both SteveP and richwig83 seem to have had no problems with these.
-
I have a pair waiting to fit but if there are issues I aint sure if to bother, they look good fitted
-
What hardy said is bang on. They sit on the top and I guess the start to come loose, especially under hard braking. Hopefully others who have had them fitted will give their views.
-
They shouldnt fall out providing that the small tab is slotted into the hole in the brake pad clip!
-
Yeah as rich has said as long as they are fitted correctly there will be no issues, they fit in exactly the same way as the non r clip?
Mine have been on for 20k and 30 odd laps of the Ring with no issues whatsoever...

Sorry if this sounds stupid but where is the small tab and there are no clips on the pad?! Only on the piston end

The small metal tab in the middle of the pad clip (second photo) , should slot into the hole that can be seen on the metal brake pad clip (first photo)

Great pics Rich. I don't have the metal brake pad clip. It's empty. Maybe that's why they came off twice. Also, I'm pretty sure metal tab on the retainers are not as big on the 'R' ones or I may be mistaken.
-
What pads do you have?
-
They are OEM pads. Ate I think.
-
Heres another pic... shows OEM pads with the hole in the clip.

If youve not got that hole, its not wonder they are popping off!

I don't have that clip even though they are OEM pads :sad1: atleast I know why they are coming off now. Next time I need pads, I'll deffo check to see they have the clip on there. Thanks for the help Rich :happy2:

The pagid pads have the correct retaining hole.
-
Does anybody know the part number for the retaining clip on MK7 R front calipers?
I'm buying the calipers but there is no clip and never has been according to the seller.

Have you looked on Ebay?
There used to be some on there (last year) that had the part numbers I think.

The brakes in this thread are not MK7 R. They don't use those clips. Look at the date of the original post
The only thing that clips into MK7 R/S3/Cupra calipers is the relevant emblem plate.
