This is the current discussion at the workshop. Mine would be a slightly high milage 996 911 turbo.
Any other ideas?
-
I've only limited knowledge here PDT but my money would be on a higher mileage 996 C4, or, a fair mileage early Cayman S for a couple of grand more if they just fit into that price bracket?
-
928 S4 has been a want of mine for years. Methinks you would get some change with 20k.
-
Cayman S , or Boxster S - or a 911 SC 3.0 from the 80s PLUS a GTI
-
Boxster s or another 944 S2 :happy2:

If you could find one, a 944 Turbo S, a 944 turbo with 250BHP and trick suspension and turbo on the near side wing just to let people know you hadn't bought the Povvy normal 944 Turbo
Exquisite handling, perfect balance and the M030 brake package from the 993 RS and 928S4
Anybody remember the magazine "Fast Lane" from the 80's, they tested it and thoght it was the best 4 cylinder car in the world
A true classic and I would imagine a bloody good investment if you could find one, and bombproof for the odd track day

My favourite car I have ever driven :congrats:

Get onto the 911uk forum there's loads of info also go to Hartech in bolton their site has a good buyers guide.
It's a move I've been considering but tbh the 996.1 (3.4) are now showing fairly hefty engine issues and unless its got full opc history or it has been modded by Hartech to avoid future engine fail I would personally avoid unless you've got really deep pockets.
Have you driven one yet? I took a c4s out recently and although blown away by the power I was a little fazed by the lightness on the front and the sheer effort to apply the brakes.
For me it's prolly a c4s for the fat arse and one that had been fully serviced by Porsche or given the Hartech treatment.
Good luck but tread carefully. :happy2:

Thanks for the time taken to write that advice golf clubs, but I am not looking to buy one.
Its just that this was the topic of the day in the workshop between staff and customers. :happy2:

Right. Think my advice still stands as if money were no object then the question wouldnt have been set. I think my c4s option is a safeish bet but a rock solid option would be a good 993, they have none of the engine meltdown issues and IMO look uber cool.
For the budget set I don't think it's easy to get a good turbo.

I'd track down a Cayman just like the one QD had. It's lovely!

I'd also go as above....but with a TURBO! Rarer than rocking horse poo so I can't even find one for sale but i'll imagine there sub 20k!
