I'm deliberating on buying bluefin for my Ed30.But before I spend the best part of £500 on a handset,I would like to know if there are any issues with using one with 95RON petrol.
Where I live,it's impossible to get 98 or above,so I'm stuck with 95 and I don't want to use additives as I'm not sure that they give any benefit and may do damage to the engine or cat.
Any advice is most appreciated. :happy2:

Hi Bane, i spoke to superchips a couple of days ago about this very subject as i live in Ireland and here you can't buy anything above 95Ron. I was going stage 2 :jumpmove: and they told me there maps are safe to use on 95. Wether the maps are developed with 95 in mind or not i couldnt get to the bottom of. So according to superchips it's perfectly safe, obviously a higher octane fuel will give better results but if you're like me and stuck with 95, it's all good (apparently) HTH. James :happy2:

Freddy, you need to start filling at Maxol mate. Their petrol is 98/99 RON. I use almost exclusively (I'm in Ireland too).

You sure about that? I'll check again. Is was told all super unleaded was pulled from the pumps the minute the green party went into coillition goverment 4-5 years ago. I haven't seen a super unleaded pump in this country in said years. There are still superunleaded stickers on pumps, don't be fooled, as far as i know theres no 98Ron, of course i stand to be corrected and would be very happy to be wrong :notworthy: James

Sounds like an odd thing for the green party to do have highoctane pulled, its not as though it polutes anymore than standard 95 ron  In fact better combustion which is possible with higher octane fuel would be cleaner! Lets hope fizman is right and you can start a high octane obsession!
-
Indeed i hope to god i have been mis-informed :happy2: One other point is i think you guys have super unleaded 98Ron on the inside your petrol cap, where as far as i know all Irish Gtis have 95 printed. Heres hoping i'm wrong :driver:

Rich have you been watching the news recently, this is the Irish goverment were talking about :signLOL: Who knows why they do what they do :fighting:

Yeah fair point  Just seems a mental thing to do! And yeah all GTI's have 98 in bold and a (95) small next to it in the filler cap.

@ Fizman, mate looks like you were right, i was talking to Maxol and they were stocking 97/98ron up until January this year, but have pulled it because of excise duty and apparantly the greens pushed for the excise to be raised 5 years ago hence why most stopped selling it. I got my hopes up there for a while, looks like its 95 from here in :sad1:

Are the no garages that have 97 ron fuel near you. the likes of Jet and sainsburies etc normally sell 97 ron
-
Blufin and 95 ron are safe, have logged a few k04 cars and theres virtually no timing pull even on low grade fuel, as superchips is a 1 size fits all product they add virtually no ignition advance over stock.

How about the E5 they quote as higher on the Maxol site, if not I am going back to topaz :fighting:

I run a BlueFin stage 2 and have no problems using even the cheapest supermarket 95, response is not as good and runs much smoother and sharper on 98-99 if you can get it, but never had a problem running both. ECU will handle fine adjustments for quality of fuel and air/air density and deal with that for us so we get no problems.
