Title: Dual Climate
Post by: Five Alive on March 28, 2011, 10:00:06 pm
This may be a stupid question but if i was to replace my climate control panel without the dual button with one that has the dual button it would that add the feature or is there other bits i would need?

You can change the unit with no other bits required. I did this, before I fitted the mk6 version

I think he means the later cars , they had a Dual button where early cars had 'Econ'

That is correct mine has the econ as opposed to the Dual, so if i change it over to a dual panel will it all work ok

It will work fine as Eddie says, the functions are the same on all the mk5 panels they are just actioned in different ways, as standard the older aircon panels go into dual (both temperatures operated by driver dial) when you hold the auto button down and move to seperate zones when the passenger dial is adjusted, the dual button doesnt replace Econ it replaces the blank on the older units.  The later ones also have the AC button instead of ECON which obviously has the opposite function switching on the compressor rather than switching it off.

What he said, the newer panel doesn't offern anything new, just makes it slightly more intuitive to use.

So if I've understood this right, the A/C is always on unless the ECON button is lit??

How difficult is it to swap the older panel for a newer one??

Yes you have understood right :happy2:

As for swaping the panels I can't help as I still have a old one.

Relitively simple same process as removing the headunit plus a couple of extra screws for the climate panel itself, not really sure why you would want to when it doesnt give anything new
