Title: 2004 Gt Tdi - Upgade Discs
Post by: Johnny_tro on March 28, 2011, 10:51:32 pm
hi all, my discs and pads are due to be replaced shortly.......and I do a LOT of mileage!!

I honestly don't find the current brakes too bad, but then again I have not tired GTI's or R32 ones to compare.

What is the best route for a nice upgrade? and came some please confirm the disc sizes as the model goes up

1) Just buy some better discs/pads
2) Upgrade to GTI < are they better calipers? or same as my current ones
3) R32 ones < are these the daddy of braking?

HAVE to watch my pennies too so no £1000 upgrade!!

Kind of in the same boat. Front discs and pads are going to need changing in the next 6 months and i'm not able to spend a massive amount on any upgrades. Currently have 280mm discs and do notice a significant amount of fade which is slightly disconcerting.

Options are

Performance pads and disks - straight swop
GTI brake caliper replacement with 312mm discs. More expensive but much better stopping power.

The latter is going to be more expensive but gives more bang for your buck.

Upgrading to GTI front brakes will be the cheapest and most effective way to improve your braking on a TDI.
I upgraded my GTI ones to S3 brakes all round, but that's only because I'm running over 340bhp now and needed the extra stopping power!
As with everything, you get what you pay for, but also need to balance out cost v performance.
Can't beat this for £100....

I fitted S3 Front Brakes to my GT-TDI, was one of my favourite mods, made a massive difference

If you plan on remapping the car and keeping it for a bit then this is what i'd go for :happy2:
