Hi whats the best way to upgrade the ED30 brakes on a budget? im thinking of pads at the moment unless i can find a cheap r32 set up?
Does anyone have any experiance of fitting upgraded pads?
-
the only thing you gain from the r32 setup is a bigger disc as they are still a single pot caliper, if i was you i would use better brake fluid and some better pads and that will be fine
-
Any suggestions?

worth a look
-
are mine 312mm or 286mm and are the pads the same?
-
312 are fronts 286 are rear
-
R32 brakes seem to improve stopping power on mine, combined with some ferodo ds2500 pads im putting on front and rear soon, they are more than enough for a mapped ed30 :happy2:
-
What did you have to replace to fit them?

I just have the leon cupra fronts which are the same as s3 and r32 and are already painted red.
The fronts are a straight swap, they just have different hoses and splash guards which cost me around £15 from vw :happy2:.
Heres a pic

-
So all you change is the calpiers, hoses and back plates the discs are the same? what type of cupra calipers should i look out for?
-
the brake discs are a lot bigger. there 345mm brakes.

TTs Brakes
S3 Brakes
R32 Brakes
Seat leon Cupra Brakes

-
A that's rite I thought it was you Mat :happy2: Still a reasonable price for a qaulity big brake upgrade  Are you still able to get hold of said brakes easily Mat? Maybe next mod once the new wheel are sorted :happy2:
Toast
-

-
Cool al Pm you when I'm looking for them :happy2:

With a mod such as cupra brakes, is it worth telling the insurance company or would they never know the difference? I imagine it would take a real keen eye to see the difference through my 18" monza's
-
The only thing that ever changed the price of my policy was the remap, everything else is just paperwork - so yeah, tell them.
DS2500s and a fluid change will help, braided hoses too. :happy2:
-
i'm looking to work on my brakes to@ed30, current pads are finished.
i was also considering s3/r32 upgrade, by the sounds of it i should be ok with some ferodo ds2500's, braided hosing and fluid change?
-
Just got off the phone with Venom Motorsports who tell me Ferodo DS2500's arent available on the rear as yet?
They recommended Ferodo's up front and EBC Red Stuff on rear, what do you think guys?
-
Does anyone know if you can use the Ed30 hoses when fitting a new set of S3/R32/Cupra fronts??? want all the bits before i go ahead and get the car on the ramp!
cheers
-
No ! they are to short you need the longer front R32 hoses.
-
^^^
As above, need the R32 hoses I believe. :happy2:

am pretty sure Robin said you could get ds2500 for the rear as JKM had sourced the part number?
-
Cheers just bought some new ones!! Now need to fit them!!
-
Searching for the 345mm upgrade brakes for my ed30 and came across this thread. Can anyone point me in the direction of a cheap supplier or can you still source them cheap Mandy?
-
Another option is the NQSBBK, admittedly a little more than a 32/S3 setup but they are 4 pot, lighter than OEM and they run on the standard 312 discs :happy2:

Ahhh yeah.... stupid forum rules.... :innocent:
basically said ~£400 with nearly new 340mm brembo discs and mintex m1144 pads and HEL hoses.... everything you need to get it on the car :happy2: Available in about 4 weeks
-
Just fronts is that?
-
Yeah
-
The rears are like gold dust to find :-(
-
Do the NQSBBK perform much better?
Better than what? Better than GTi brakes?
If so, the answer is YES!!
NQSBBK was one of the best things I ever did to my Golf.
Even though I didn't have big power, the handling was sorted and you could drive the car quickly. This was possible by the much more intuitive, progressive, powerful brake setup. Because they are lighter the car handled better also.

Both sets are prov. sold.

I've always has good results with Ferodo DS2500 pads and some good quality fluid.
Have used this setup on many cars and it never fails to impress me, how well the OEM calipers & discs can perform.
As pads go, the ferodo's can be pricey but way cheaper than a big break upgrade. My 2p...

Well if anyone is interested i have perfect set of R32/S3 fronts, Comes with freshly painted calipers and brackets (in Red) nearly new discs and pads, retaining clip and R32 dust shields.
PM if interested. They will be off the car this week.
