Title: Horn replacement....
Post by: RedRobin on March 03, 2009, 11:22:30 pm
....

About 3 months ago I decided I found the stock horn boring and also not loud enough. I've had Italian air horns on a car before and miss them. So I went along to a local auto bits shop and bought some 2-tone trumpet air horns. However, they didn't deliver a very full sound and I was a little disappointed.

I was even more disappointed when they started to sound weak and wheezy a few weeks ago! We now know the compressor failed - That'll teach me to buy cheap goods! So I've now just bought some proper Italian-made FISA triple-tone horns and they'll be fitted on Friday. They just play one simultaneous triple note chord, not a song.

I'll post a pic in due course.

I get really fed up of all the cheap poor quality cr@p made in the Far East which then doesn't last - It's always a false economy.

:signLOL: - I love it!

Mine won't be quite as big a sound as that (I hope!) but it would be fun!

It just cracks me up! If I had one of those I'd be doubled up in the footwell laughing!

It would certainly blast middle lane hoggers away!!

Not very Italian though.

Have a look on www.stebel.it they are Italian as it happens, and on their site you can hear the full range. (including some more Italian sounding ones).  :happy2:

Thanks for the Stebel link, matt :happy2:. If my FISA's aren't up to it, I'll be checking out Stebel - They do a nice compact version.

I am going to put my RedRobin cap on for this one.

The horn is a integral part of the safety system. Are you really sure you want to be messing with such a serious safety feature.
I am quite sure my local police, of which i know many and have become personal friends with over the years, would take um bridge at you guys belittling such a important part  /safety device. Yes you may think by making it much louder and purposeful it sounds better but does this not detract from its one and only function to warn people of danger.
I have been working closely with horns R.US for many years and i am currently part of the development / testing team for there long established new products.   :driver:

Just in case you have been living on the moon these last few months and have not read my how to do product review then here is a link.

ETTO of course.                         HTPP//Mk5GTI i am sure you have read this but here it is again review.co.uk

I guess i need to add that this meant purely as a joke no offence intended Red leader.   :drinking:

That's right - Its primary purpose is to make others aware of your presence and consequently a potential incident may be prevented.

My Police Driver's Handbook is in my car so I can't refer to what it says about horns and their use

My new triple trumpet air horns are now installed and are much louder and richer sounding than my previous cheapo Streetwise twin air horns (pic below) : -

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FRedRobin_05%2FMods%2FAirHorns2tone.jpg&hash=2bf105daf9a9ec863490801a169ad6221ea95c6c)

^ These are the twin horns I have just had replaced ^

They are tucked away out of reach of debris from the road. That third middle note in the chord makes all the difference to the sound - Slightly 'diesel locomotive' but obviously not quite as loud! I'd describe the sound as Italian Diesel Locomotive.

When I'm next at BIALI Skunkwerks I'll ask my mate Dan to make a vid clip I can post.
