Hi lads, I got WALK and eibach sportlines fitted today plus 4 wheel allignment on my 2005 gti,
took the car out for a bit of spirited driving this evening and lets just say I'm very happy with the result.
The car seems much more flatter in the corners and like i've read there is almost no wheel spin when hard accelerating...
I think these mods are really well worth it.
Ive noticed a slight sqweek from the front passenger side, the guy in the garage said he checked and everything seems fine,
anybody come across the same thing? happens when I go over ramps or bumps...
thanks

Try spraying wd40 on the anti roll bar bushes, and see if stops it.
mine did this, and this stops it.........for a while

I had my front struts, springs, top mount bushes, guides, and it still did it.
it sounds like dry Anti roll bar bushes.( behind front jacking points, in round metal housings, with black rubbers inside. Douse them in wd40 and see if it stops.

How much is this WALK kit? Is it essentially a set of bushes?
-
Are the ARB bushings easy to get at? i have some grease from whiteline bushings i bought from a previous car..
-
I bought the WALK from one of the lads on here vRS carl..
Its not just bushings, whole bracket and bushing...
-
Yes, just get on your hands and knees, and you will be able to spray them with the red tube in a can of wd40 to soak them.
If your gonna replace them, it's up on ramps for easiest access.
If squeak goes, then housings off to lube them :signLOL:
-
The front ARB bushes stit on top of the subframe at each side, it wouldn't be easy to grease the without dropping the frame!
-
I'll try the WD40 and see does it solve it.. even if its only temp..
Can the ARB bushins be replaced or did i read ya have to replace the whole bar....
-
Mine are sprayed monthly, keeps the ickle squeaking mice away :signLOL:
Have no plans to replace mine currently .

And that does the job? has the sqeek got louder at all when they dry up?

Hasn't got any worse since I've sprayed them, once a month when I remember, and she's still quiet not enough to warrant spending on new bushes.
-
to change them you need to drop the subframe which means you should really do an alignment check, but I have marked the position of the subframe in several places with marker pen before dropping and put it back in the same place before now

Are you using the standard shocks with the sportlines?
-
Yeah standard shocks... i take it its ok to run these springs on standard shocks?
-
Yes, no problems with standard dampers, they work really well for fast road. You might get some bounce at high speed as the damper would have been designed for a full length spring like a Pro Kit rather than a Sportline but the match is pretty good. I whacked them on a Pro Damper which is not far off the standard GTi damper - if you ask Eibach/Sachs.
I only changed my dampers as it was no extra labour cost on top of doing the springs, so did both at the same time - oh, and my damperssprings had done 100,000 miles, they get a bit saggy after that.

Silicone based spray is kinder to the bush and lasts longer than wd40

Don't use WD40 for rubber !!!
Use silicon spray.
