I have 4 days coming up that I will be using to get away somewhere, but need ideas on where to go. Not looking for a beach or clubbing holiday, more a family thing for a few quiet days but with plenty to see/do. Did look at Morocco but the missus said no. Alos looked at greece, Paris, Italy....
Any advice?
-
Stuggart? Lots of car related things to do around there and only a little drive away from Schwarzwald which is very beautiful!
-
Can just see that working, me doing 'car related stuff' on holiday, Missus would be pleased :innocent:
but will consider it as she did mention Germany as an option :happy2:
-
To be honest... even my finance who isn't a petrol head at all enjoyed the Porsche museum. :happy2: Germany is a wonderful place I love it!
Salzburg is also a beautiful place, loads to see and do around there (4 days would be perfect to enable you to see most things) including Hilters Eagles nest which is a something you've got to see to believe... if your into stuff like that. Its also about 2 hr drive from the most amazing waterfalls youll ever see.. (krimml wasserfall)
-
Amsterdam! :happy2:
-
Paris or Rome would get my vote - you could go by train to Paris!
-
To be honest... even my finance
Finance?
Salzburg is a great place to trip to. Friends of mine went there last year

Had a nightstop in Palma Majorca last week, managed to fall asleep in the sun and burn myself but the evenings were mild and shirtsleeveable.
Some stunning non chavvy parts of the island and some good hotels.
Try a short break in Puerto Polensa on the East side of the island, just beautiful....get a car and have a drive around, theres some 5000 foot hills to the north its like the Lake District in July most days!!!! Great for a drive and a walk.
Fourth busiest airport in the EU so well served from all major UK Airports

I went there in December and fell in love with the place, that's why I suggested it. It was chuffin cold when I went though so I'd like to go back in the summer when it's a bit more pleasant to be strolling around!

That place is not far from me and I have to agree it is really nice there. My sister in law used to go there for Christmas on a 'get away from it all' break and we visited her there a few times. Very cosy and relaxing with Exeter, Torbay and Dartmoor very nearby.
Still reckon New York is better though! On a short trip where you don't want lots of hussle and bustle you can stay down the bottom end of Manhattan, there are lovely flat walks along the sea shore, free ferry ride to see the skyscrapers from their best angle a they appear to rise out of the sea. Brooklyn Bridge is a nice walk and has one of the best views of Manhattan for taking photos. Those two things are free to do.
Chinatown and Little Italy are very close to this area too, so dining is taken care of very cheaply and you can jump on the Subway to see the lights of Central Manhattan by night.

I went to Bavaria last year for 2 weeks. Stayed in Garmisch Partenkirchen. Beautiful location. Surrounded by mountains that make good routes for a days walking,
the whole area is geared towards outside activities. We did all sorts from rock climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, white water rafting (hours drive into austria for that) and a two day hike up to the peak of Mt Zugspitz staying off at a lodge halfway up.
Great place and ill 100% be going back there again. . theres also a mountain called Mt Wank which is always good for a photo

New York :happy2:
Would love to, but for 4 days its a bit far as I am going to the USA in October anyway :happy2:

I had 6 days in Prague last July , brilliant place - if you are there on a Thursday , there is a tour that runs from Prague to the Skoda Factory and Museum at Mlada Boleslav , well worth a day out! If you can , check out Kutna Hora , Cesky Krumlov and Karlovy Vary as well , tours to all these places are sold from Kiosks on one of the main streets , Na Prikope , just off Wencleslas Sq. PS Dont drink in the British or Irish pubs , they are twice the price of the smaller local places.

Prague is stunning but Budapest is great and well worth a look :happy2:

What type of things did you do in Prauge?
-
Walked the entire city and parks. It was done on the cheap so didnt really get chance to do any tours or visits. Seemed to be plenty to do though, lots of tourist information available on the streets and at the hotels.

Paris is great if you want something with a lot of history
The Louvre - Art till it comes out your ears
Hotel des Invalides - Museum with loads of armour
Palace of Versailles - Just outside Paris, but awesomely excessive palace of the the Louis'
Champs Elysees - great for just a walk in the evening
Musee d'Orsay - Another Museum with loads of exhibitions throughout the year
Eiffel Tower - Awesome view
Notre Dame Cathedral - Lovely cathedral that Quasimodo went deaf in  Also near the latin quarter where there are some lovely restaurants.
I could go on and on. I for one love it and as a bit of an art buff cannot get enough :happy2:

I went mainly for the Christmas markets. I also visited the sex museum and museum which had an exhibition on the Beatles which was really interesting. I also visited the castle. Lots of walking (in the snow!), eating and drinking.
