Hey guys, As the title says my driver's side mirror glass was loose for the last few days, I went to check it out and it came off from the backing, The backing (with the 2 wires) seems to be fine but it's just the glass bit that's got unstuck from it,
I am wondering what's the best way to get this sorted? Can I just stick it back on with some glue to the backing? If so will the heated function still work?
Thanks
-
The wires clip onto the mirror.
Can you push the mirror back onto the base? It may have just popped off, in which case it can be replaced.
-
Hi
Thanks for the quick reply,
I can put the glass back onto the backing bit (where the wires are connected) but it doesn't stick to that, I will quickly take a picture and upload it.

i got a funny feeling you have your mirror demisters on ? same happened to me they don't turn off and melts the glue
-
Hi mate
The light's not on for the demisters? The mirrors been loose for a few weeks now so maybe it might have happened then but the passenger one seems to be fine? Is it a case of getting a new mirror and stick it back onto the backing thing? This is quite confusing lol
-
demisters dont have to be on, Have you got the mirror switch on demist?
-
hi mate
I didn't know about the mirror switch on demist? I've recently purchased the car so still trying to figure everything out, I thought to demist the side mirrors and the rear screen you just press the button on top of the ac button next to the recirculate button (on climatic)? Sorry to sound a complete noob.
How would I know if the switch is on? (i'm presuming your referring to the mirror adjuster which has the L-0-R options) sorry mate,
Thanks
-
Yes, it does have L O R but above those options at the 12 o clock position is a ~ symbol. This is the heated demist setting. If you've left the switch set at this point, the heaters are on. They are manual only & don't automatically shut off.
-
crap, will need to check this out. I've not noticed it before but may not have looked at it closely but I should mention that I have an 54 plate 1.9tdi not a GTI? i'm presuming this doesn't change anything.
anyway, in regards to the mirror glass, will I have to purchase just the glass only with the sticky back or will I need other components as well? I'm assuming my current one won't just stick on?
-
Mine did the exact same, i just stuck them on with velcro for a temp fix, ended up like that for 12months as i completly forgot untill i saw this thred.
-
hi mate
yeah i just read that another member stuck it back on with that no more nails sticky pad,
Did the heated function work with the velcro? lol
-
Happened to both of mine 12 months ago after I left the heated glass on
Glued them back in place with superglue and been perfect ever since. Went through the winter perfectly with heaters working as they should!
-
Hi guys
Thanks for the replies, Well I checked my mirror adjustment switch this morning and it was on the demist setting! damn, Anyway popped down to local store and picked up some of that No more nails sticky tape and some super glue. Stuck it back on but I went abit over the top with the superglue and some drained to the bottom and it formed a small blob on the bottom of the mirror, It starts to catch when i try and tilt the mirror down, I figured I'll clean it up properly tomorrow.
Then a few hours later the adjustment thing stopped working, only the driver's side (repaired side) isn't working, Also the driver's door does not lock at all. Everything else is fine such as the electric windows etc. I'm hoping it may just be a fuse and nothing more serious. I will check the fuses tomorrow update here.
-
Hi,
I know it's late but this thing was pi**ing me off so I checked the fuses and all of them are fine  what could be wrong with it now, this car has been nothing since problems since I got it. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated, I'm really considering getting rid of it!.
Thanks
-
Someone whacked mine and something like this happened, best fix is Ebay and got new glass with wire for £10. Just plugs in and pops on, done job.
-
Thanks for the reply mate, Yeah If there is a next time I probably would just try and get a used one from eBay,
I still can't figure this door lock thing out, It's like a module or something isn't working, So far the Driver's door does not lock with the keyfob (it locks with the blade), the Driver's side mirror doesn't adjust, (the passenger side seems to be adjusting fine), and also the little yellow light that come's on when you press the lock button on the driver's door doesn't come on when pressed, Also from the keyfob when i lock it then indicators don't blind but i'm presuming this is because the driver's door isn't locking.
Any ideas?
-
Just an update, Tried again checking fuses in just bear desperation but there all good. I can't actually hear the locking mechanism in the door when I press the fob. I think I may need to take the door card out now.
If anyone can help please post here as I am going mad over this now! argh
-
Total long shot, but a Merc ML we had did this and it drove me mad. Checked all the fuses and nothing but had the car plug in and checked and it was a relay that was faulty - worth a look because it's really annoying.
-
Thanks for the info mate, I need to find someone with VAGCOM down in Leicester.
It is extremely annoying !
Thanks again
-
Hi
Get the vag com done and post up the results
-
Thanks Eddie, Will do once I get it scanned.
-
hey guys

So nothing is showing up for the drivers side door module which controls all the items in the door (central locking, window winder control light for locking button mirror control etc)
If you still have the cable it would be worth doing an output test on the driver door control module as it will allow you to cycle through the functions of the controller to narrow down the error.
As a further comment you can adjust the heater timings for the rear window and the mirrors in one of the module in 1 minute increments, standard on my car was 10 minutes. (I cant remember which module right now as I was on a random look through long coding)
-
thanks for the reply mate,
I've still got the cable but to be honest I don't know how to do the test on the driver control module :ashamed:
i'll have a good look through the settings later today, is there any other tricks that I can do while i've got the cable?
thanks
-
if you go into the driver door module, will be in the select module tab, then click on output test, it will then prompt you to click start and it will cycle through often with you pressing next as prompted on the screen, it will do things like flash the indicator, move mirror put window up and down cycle the locking mechanism.

hey mate,
I forgot one thing, I was going through the settings before i performed that scan above and in one of the modules I found the code below, but I tried to clear the code then I performed the main scan, luckily before I cleared it I saved it! I'm pretty sure it's related to the door.

sounds like the wiring could be causing the problem. check where the door loom plugs into the iterior loom

That sounds like the error, this is what the ross tech Wiki says for that
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/00928 (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/00928)
So as Eddie says you might have a loose cable somewhere.

hey guys
thanks for the advise, I'm going to check the wires later today, I'll keep this thread updated!
thanks again
