Title: Toyo R888
Post by: Big Red T on April 07, 2011, 09:37:10 pm
Toyo r888 , anybody using them daily? What are they like in the wet? My first tyres were Michelin pilot sport2 which were excellent my next set were continental conti sports which were really good but not brilliant my third set are pirelli zero Nero which I think are complete rubbish so next up could be toyo 888,s or michelins again. Any help?

I used them on my Type R EP3, they were great in the dry crap in the wet!

I prefered Yoki Prada Spec 2's, don't know what they'd be like on the Golf

Thanks ongoing, I had an ep3 brand new which I thought was crap in the wet regardless of tyres as it was far too stiff ( no offence). To me the mk5 has twice the handling of an ep3 especially in the wet. It's just the torque lowdown seems to kill the traction of what is such a capable engine.

What is your driving profile?

Only daily commuting or a few track days as well?

The R888 are very noisy and a pain in the rain.
So nothing to go for on a daily driver.

Look for R1-R, RS-2, AD08, 595 RS-R if it should be track proof.
If not, but sportier than most others: P Zero, PSS, SC5P.

Continental Sport Contact 5 is SC5P

Yes, SC5P is the sportiest Conti tyre beyond the R-compound ForceContact.

Don't mess up with the SC5 without 'P' (which means performance).

Michelin sell the PSS in the US in some very interesting 17" and 18" dimensions:

My favourite for road application !!

Toyo R1R's are excellent in both wet and dry, just not in the COLD.

I'm currently using r888 on the road and there awesome in the dry but in heavy rain your best parking up and walking  :signLOL:. What I would say is there a very expensive tyre and they don't really last long, I've had mine on for 3 weeks and I only drive the car at weekends and there probably half way through but I do drive hard :)

 they're fine in the wet, just don't drive like a knob... But if you do drive like a knob and get some heat in them, then they're super, not as good as warm michelins in the wet though...  Toyos do look better than the ps2's

Looking like I'll go back to the michelins do far. Not as if we get that many dry days really is it and I do enjoy a little go in the rain after all these cars handle wet or dry.
