I want to replace my 3 door golf's window switches, all I want to change is the plastic bit your finger touches, not the whole unit. I have seen a drivers side set for a 5 door mk6, does anyone know if I could strip it down and use 3 of them on my car?
UPDATE:
Bought some from VW with the chrome edges, single and double switches (all you need for a 3 door) They are plug and play.
Part no.
5K0 959 855 XSH (Single)
5K3 959 857 A XSH (Double)
Cost was around £35

Went ahead and ordered then on the off chance it will do the job, it was buy it now on ebay and I have been looking for some mk6 switches for ages so I didn't want to miss it.
Will post on here with the results. I remember being able to strip the mk4 ones so I'm hoping these are the same.

I did exactly the same..no issues whatsoever..straight swap over..from MK6 to MK5

The switches on a 5 are the same onto a 6, but not sure if you can strip it down and have it work in a 3 door rather than a 5.

Update:
You can remove the switch cover but they are not the same underneath so to answer my question, you can not take apart a 5 door set of switches to fit to a 3 door.
They are now for sale in the for sale section.
