Title: Should i buy one thats already stage 2?

Hi guys, as you know im on the lookout for a gti. Ive come across one that comes with Miltec full Stainless Steel Exhaust system including Sports CAT, K&N Typhoon induction kit and Stage 2 professional Re-Map to 265BHP. Its got full vw history and 51k miles. The only thing that concerns me is that its probably been driven quite hard and also with those mods will it effect engine longevity? Im not a boy racer(too old for that) however i like to put my toe down now and again so i would probably go for a stage 1 anyway. Also with these mods does it effect fuel economy?

Thanks in advance for any replies as you could be saving me a lot of money!!!

Is the seller able to give you the stock parts in the car sale (ie stock exhaust etc) If so you haven't much to lose as the Golf has been fully serviced. :happy2:

Yes he is able to supply all the original parts to put back to standard.

There will always be a higher wear rate on consumables with a mapped car over a standard car, however a fully serviced car shouldn't have any reliability issues over a standard car except for consumables (including the clutch and DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel))  on a manual. :smiley:

professional stage 2 remap?  what tuner, any proof of its outputs.

The best way of knowing is going to look at it and talking to the owner you should be able to get a good feel for how he has looked after it. He should have evidence of this care taken if he has looked after it. The guy I bought my car off for instance padded his garage Walls with cushins so that he or the wife would never bang the doors when getting out! Little things like that

DSG has been shown to be even more resilient to tuning :happy2:

id steer clear if the service schedule has been on 'long life servicing' ie 15-18 month intervals.  if i was buying a mapped car id want it to be on fixed servicing every 12k at the most.

Also bear in mind the 60k service is quite involved cost wise iirc

Well im going to view it tomorrow. Is the 60k service cambelt and water pump? Any recall i should be aware of?

I think that should have been the 40k service/4th year service. Make sure it's been done or knock the cost off.

I would have bought mine in Stage 2 trim, had I seen it two weeks earlier
