Title: Not a GTI...New Brand Products Tested - Aston V8V Detail (minor GTI content)
Post by: SimonBash on April 11, 2011, 09:18:42 pm
I've posted this over on DW but thought you guys may want to have a look at this lovely car, includes a picture of the passenger rear of mine.....

A good friend of mine finally treated himself and upgraded his 1996 BMW for a Aston Martin :doublesho

Obviously I was happy to accompany his to the Aston dealership to inspect the car prior to him buying it, paint not too bad, normal swirls and the like detracting from the lovely metallic grey (orange peel free) paint which had the normal DA sanding marks.

Car was dropped off looking as follows:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjamesbat%2FSimons_Aston%2FDSC01936.jpg&hash=ce9adebadeb2efbece086438a95baf1d7415c8aa)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjamesbat%2FSimons_Aston%2FDSC01940.jpg&hash=b8a859fa21047d8a1c0db1a5d7566bf5661273d7)

Nasty staining from strong TFRs:

As always the wheels were first up, rinse with the pw (including arches), arches and tyres were covered in APC then scrubbed with a vikan brush.

Alloys liberally covered with Auto Finesse Imperial Wheel Cleaner, nice smelling product that has plenty of bite without being acidic, then agitated with detail brushes, wheel woolies and a EZ brush.

Car was then thoroughly rinsed down with Megs APC applied to panel gaps, grills, sills etc.

Then onto a 2BM wash with Auto Finesse Lather Shampoo and Z Sponges, nice slick shampoo which will come in handy for maintenance washes ;)

Tardis then applied to wheels and lower panels, left to dwell and then wiped with a MF cloth.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjamesbat%2FSimons_Aston%2FDSC01947.jpg&hash=75619a678cf2d754853f5cdb31dd6c745780177e)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjamesbat%2FSimons_Aston%2FDSC01951.jpg&hash=4d288fb5931cb1cb76059e2eb7c940b9f26d5d5e)

Car and wheels were then clayed with Dodo Born Slippy as lube and Dodo Supernatural clay, picking up very little in the way of contanination, but leaving a lovely slick finish ready for polishing.

As this was a single stage enhancement a pad/polish combination with some bite than would also finish down well was required. After trialing a few combinations it was decided a green LC constant pressure pad and Menz Power Finish via the Chicago would be best.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjamesbat%2FSimons_Aston%2FDSC01975.jpg&hash=d488da4053537264a342fd7543c92c99540daa9b)

Typical before:

And after

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjamesbat%2FSimons_Aston%2FDSC01978.jpg&hash=5aa6215c6e1f2397b24b06f7e67124ac6b5c0179)

I nice enhancement I think.

Bumpers were polished using the DAS6 DA and same pad/polish combination.

After all polishing was completed the paint was cleansed using a MF pad and Auto Finesse Rejuvenate pre wax cleanser which is a very easy product to use, a nice change from my usual of HD cleanse which can be very fussy.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjamesbat%2FSimons_Aston%2FDSC01985.jpg&hash=17e9fd406bd98ac512ab59635c02e587ea97a21a)

Then onto my favourite part, waxing :D I decided to go for the top of the range Autofinesse Spirt wax, particularly to test durability over the coming spring/summer as the car lives outdoors.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjamesbat%2FSimons_Aston%2FDSC02001.jpg&hash=1cb17d01ca8999d16bbfa0160c6db290fbec3be2)

Wax applied using a foam applicator and left to cure while some other details were taken care of:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjamesbat%2FSimons_Aston%2FDSC02035.jpg&hash=9310be83e1e0f6e97f317e541f9061d3af36fc27)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjamesbat%2FSimons_Aston%2FDSC02037.jpg&hash=492a3e661cbbb147d793b2c95cb556a6f9bf16de)

Interior was also hoovered, leather cleaned and fed, exhaust polished, grill polished with wire wool and Megs NXT (took ages :wall:) and glass cleaned with Auto Finesse Crystal glass cleaner and a couple of microfibres.

First coat of wax buffed off

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjamesbat%2FSimons_Aston%2FDSC02004.jpg&hash=8ee110fed083c9ad188a720042bc0fabb0ed4df4)

And then a second applied, just to make sure of coverage/durability etc.

Whilst the second coat cured I decided to polish the alloys with Auto Finesse Tripple all in one, again very very easy to apply and remove, and dress the tyres with Auto Finesse Gloss.

Then it was time for the wax to be buffed, a quick wipe down with Auto Finesse Glisten detail spray and the detail was complete. The finished pictures then commenced....

Last but not least my favourite picture:

The owner (Darren) was rather pleased and decided to get the beers in :D

Comments, criticisms etc welcome.

Cheers

Simon

Very easy IMO, the idea is that as the products have been designed by a detailer they should be as easy as possible.

All in one, pre wax cleanser and glass cleaner will be very popular I think, then there are the waxes... :happy2:

It was, a nice purpose organised space does come in handy when he can spare it.

Your unit looks rather impressive from the write ups I have seen on DW.

I've been very impressed by the bits I've tried, especially Rejuvenate, and I should be having Spirit delivered today.

Great work on the Aston mate :)

Very impressive. Love the detail and the pics are somewhat fantastic.

Now why did you use Auto finesse products? Not something I know much about so some education would be welcome  :happy2:

He was using Auto Finesse's unit too lol!

Tbh, I was very sceptical about the range at first, but having tried a few of the products now, they have all been added to my arsenal and are all very impressive.  James wouldn't have put his name to them otherwise, and his brand is becoming quite established now!

Rejuvenate via Rotary is very impressive for a one hit wonder product (once you overcome the splatter!)

I used it here:

Sounds like Autobrite cherry glaze - an all-in-one polish, cleanser and wax.

Not really mate, rejevenate is a pre-wax cleanser and can also be used for light correction like dodo juice lime prime.

AF do have an AIO product, Tripple, which I used on the areas I can't get a polisher on my GTI :happy2:

I used it for a new car detail on a black Range Rover Sport and it worked a treat.

As Russ said it is a very good range as James has a reputation to protect, however at present rejevante is my favourite in the range.
