Sat nav is worse than my missus at map reading!!! Are there any upgrades, or is best to try and locate a local halfords on my iPhone map app, then go and buy a Tom Tom..?
-
To what sat nav are you referring too !!??
-
MFD2 or RNS510?
-
07 reg edition 30, needs a cd in the bit above the screen...
-
That'll be an MFD2 then.

Not the greatest unit in the world and quite outdated now.
-
Ive got the DVD version of the MFD2 and it works fine. NOt the most advance unit in the world but it does the job! :happy2:
-
RNS 510 ftw. :happy2:
-
I'd only stick with VW if you want to keep everything OEM.
The RNS510 is limited in what it can do compared to what some of the latest head units can do.
What the RNS can't do:
Play any video other than just DVD-Video
Play anything other than MP3 and WMA eg AAC, OGG
Show images, album art etc
No built-in bluetooth capability
No support for iphone/ipods without extra cables eg MDI interface
And the satnav isn't the fastest or the best.
But it's fine for my needs and it's OEM, which for me is important.
-
I agree the ONLY reasons to go for the RNS is to keep it OEM or you don't mind spending alot more money getting all the extra features.
My aftermarket sat nav/bluetooth/dvd combo was much better IMO, especially the nav.
I just craved the OEM look.

The DVD MFD2 will still not give you touchscreen OR full 7 digit postcode entry............only the RNS running V7 maps and a recent firmware will do that :happy2:
I have a C version RNS510 and thats only because I wanted OEM.

............Chalkie i've got this in my ED 30,Pioneer AVIC-F920BT. Have a look on www.pioneer.co.uk there a great piece of kit. :happy2:

The RNS510 can play AAC and some other formats when paired with the MDI kit and a USB stick :happy2:
The MFD2 was a good headunit in its day, but as everyone has said the RNS510 is a good step up. I upgraded as I couldnt live without touchscreen and 7 digit postcode like I had in my previous Polo GTI
That said, its perfectly ample with the latest maps installed and will get you to where you want to go quite easily
