hi guys,
Just got back from my car having its MOT, unrelated to last years failure.
I have a Milltek downpipe fitted, and as it has no cat then it failed on emissions.
The car is not mapped, but was ready for it. What would you guys recommend? I am thinking of just going for stage 1 map, so would a standard pipe just be worthwhile?
(If so, does anyone have one they don't need, I sold mine just 2 days ago, sods law!)
-
so it has no cat at all? i.e a decat?
you will need some type of catalytic converter to ever pass, (or a friendly mot tester)
-

I presume that it is a decat.
(to be honest I did not even know that it didn't have a cat, bought it off a guy here, and then took it to the garage whilst still in bubble wrap, so did not see that there was no cat on it. Oops!)
-
It could have a 100 cell cat in it, which would fail an MOT test
If you have a quick look underneath, youll see if a cat is fitted by looking if the pipe is straight through from right up at the front to where the bend is, or if there is a larger metal cylinder in between the two.
-
The standard Milltek cat is 200 cell unless you specifically ask for 100 cell.
-
If you need a friendly MOT tester let me know

Indeed. Thats what mine has in any case!

Why the need for a 'friendly' tester?
-
why is there such thing as 100 cell cat?
200 is needed for mots and otherwise just use a decat?
-
100 cell is used in motorsport. FIA rules state a 100cell cat is needed.
-
Take it to a different garage tell them its a de cat, usually they will just put the emissions test on another vehicle, way too much hassle changing the cat over for an MOT in my opinion, theres numerous cars with de cat systems on the road just find a garage that will pass it for you, theres plenty about

Cheers mate,
And thanks for your help. Really appreciate it. :happy2:

Im sure decats are sold for 'race use only' but never mind
Ive heard if you drive the car quite hard before the test, give it a good thrashing, then you can sometimes get away with a decat on mots
-
OK, so the problems go on.
Matsu was kind enough to give me his standard downpipe and cat, so took them to the garage to get fitted and retested,
Well, due to having a pipeworx exhaust with a 3inch pipe and the dtandard cat being only 2.5 then it would not fit, and they said that they wouldn't like to cut the pipes to make them fit, when I sold it, then it would make it harder to put back to standard, or if I changed my mind again then it would be difficult to rectify.
They have told me I need a 3" sports cat to get it all tied in.
Anyone any ideas on a good place to get one, and how much I can expect to pay please, and also how much I can sell my decat one that is on at the moment?
Thanks for everyones patience. :happy2: :happy2:

Not really an option to sell what I have at the moment as I have the R32 style exhaust, and don't really want to go back to standard, may just phone bluflame and see how much a complete setup would cost, garage said not to worry too much about the free retest/10 day limit, as they would sort it for me for being such a good customer i'm sure!
-
Why don't you go for Yin's option on page 1 and get your standard downpipe CAT cutout and made with flanges and your Miltek modded to accept it?
Hurdy did it.
In reviews its Miltek Murder or something like?

Al. Try powerflow.
They sell sports cats that can be flanged and easily fitted.
