Title: Lower engine mounts
Post by: Carrera2RS on April 15, 2011, 10:26:54 am
I have been reading up on engine mounts, and considering the THS or VWR lower mount. Has anyone compared ?

Jony o and Robin's reviews very helpful

I am not sure why the THS group buy did full set or top only ?  I do find the transmission a little soft and can envoke wheel hope. At the moment I drive smoothly and drive round. So I amthinking about the THS bottom mount only as the VWR is a lot of money and 'might' be too harsh.

I found the full TBE Miltek too quiet with resonated but a little boomy at 3k and reasonable throttle on the motorway (resolved with a little sound deadoning in trye well and boot using dynamat extreme)

Any thoughts appreciated

VWR lower mount has a machined outer casing and bolts , as opposed to more OE like plastic casing for the THS lower.
I would buy the full THS set  :happy2: lol (which would be about the same price as just the lower VWR!), you can fit the upper mounts later  :pomppomp:

Lets face it no matter how nice the VWR mounts are they are expensive (but very well made), do you need that extra enginneering ? Id say not for the lower mount.
THS would be just fine and considerably cheaper. :happy2:
Dont forget lower can have higher fitting costs (unless you DIY) , plus geometry check after is advised (but not mandatory)

My review states I should always have done all 3 mounts together, i still stand by that, although I do recognise that it may be a step too far for many GTI fans in terms of noise + vibration.
