was talking to a mate the other day who was seeing the car for the first time, its ok he says but then goes on to say its basically just a box, you should have bought a Civic Tyre R which has great styling. I dont know what it is but anyone saying something about your car feels like a very personal attack, after a brief argument whereby I nearly punched him I calmed by reminding myself this guy drives a 1980s clapped out beamer and knows nothing about cars. Sorry just had to rant there
-
The new Civic is a great car to be honest. I drive Skodas, so im the base of loads of abuse, which is great, i love it. Especially when i dont let them know my car has been fiddled with and they cant keep up.
With the Octavia, it was brilliant as i could say you got spanked by a big heavy Skoda 5 door family hatch back, with the new fabia vRS, i can say you got spanked by a Skoda with 1.4l engine.
And if i get spanked they have only beaten a skoda, so i win either way.

Anyone that slates the looks of the GTI is quite clearly either blind or jealous. Don't let it bother you.
-
It's usually because the gti is over looked when people are looking for a small hot hatch and as the gti isn't known for it's extremely good engine for Tuneing people just think they are a average hot hatch and nothing special. Then when they come up against one in their type r and think I'm guna waste him the stage 2+ gti goes sailing into the distance :signLOL: same applies to the skoda clang ^^^^ no one wants to be beat by a skoda :signLOL:
-
Get a sticker that says I love haters
-
Yee, I agree they are cr*p. :fighting:
Only joking :signLOL:

Is this the same Type R that Clarkson road tested? The one where the rear spoiler obstructs the rear view? The one where the seats don't go back into the same position after moving them forwards? The one where is beeps at everything you do, whether it's leave the keys in or take them out? The one which is slower than its predecessor despite being more powerful? The one that Clarkson hated?
You should get him to watch the review of the GTI on Top Gear.
IMO the strength of the GTI is its subtle styling and its ability at being an all-rounder.
-
I think the type r looks great. That's about it..............
I've heard everything about it is not as good as it's predecessor, Not good progress. Don't get me wrong, I've not driven the type r so I'm only going on what I've heard from friends and journo's.
Like ^^^^^ said, the gti is nice and subtle. Not in your face chav like say the rs focus.
-
i worked for Honda for over 10 years and had both versions of the last shape type r and as soon as the new one landed i got the keys for the day :driver: i ended up taking it back after a few hours saying its lost it edge :sad1: was just too safe

What would Harl say?? :surprised: :surprised: haha

Exactly that gaz ha. He was gutted when I preswaded you to go vag because he knew his jap can couldn't keep with us :signLOL:
-
I had a new civic in White before I got the golf and it was gorgeous  but attracted too much attention and I was worried every time I parked it up.
-
Civic type R = torquless sh*tbox for people that feel the need to drive everywhere making lots of noise waiting fot 'vtec to kick in' usually wearing low cut JLS style tops and a diamond earing.
I love the fact honda have used turbo's in their 2011 BTCC cars :signLOL:
-
the civic type R engine has been discontinued due to EU emission regulations anyway. rumours have it they are going to produce a turbo charged engine next.
The new Civic Type R is a gorgeous looking car, give it a tunable turbo charged engine and id have one

Disagree! The old style is driven by those stereotypes but not the new one.

mmmm not sure i think these shapes can be so radical that they age badly whereas boxy VW's and Beemers can look better with age ie the MK3 Gti looks quite cool now but when it came out it looked fair rubbish compared to MK2 whereas old preludes, mr2's, civics etc looked good at time but crap now
-
A colleugue of mine has an old style Type R and he raved about it and constanlty talked about "when the Vtec kicks in at around 5k it flies!".
I threw him the keys of my ED30 and said go for a spin.
20mins later,he came back and as I expected the "it's alright, but it aint no Vtec" looked at me and said....."Thats a fecking AWESOME machine, theres just so much torque in any gear! Wanna swap?" :signLOL:
-
The look of my Golf makes me smile. The sound makes my heart race. The fuel consumption makes me cry and yet would I change it not a chance :fighting:
-
pal of mine had full TBE, intake, new ECU and remap on his mk1 type R, spent about 2.5k on it, then was horrified when he couldnt keep up with my vRS that had a £350 bluefin stage remap on it.
He sold up and bought a vRS as well lol. Hes gone crazy now though and drives a 450hp EVO IX lol. reckons he'll never go to a non turbo car again
-
ha this so makes me laugh. should have seen a guys face 1 time when I had my mk1 octy. I was on a dual carriageway and pulled along side him. he really thought he'd got something special, I left him for dead, my 50 yr old father in law was in with me and as we ended the carriageway he was nowhere so I waited for him as he pulled back along side me he popped his window down a said "dude that's rapid what's in it" to which my father inlaw replied "'there w**k, buy a skoda". I nearly wet myself and he wheelspun off nearly crying. lol. don't let em get to ya buddy.

......... :happy2: :congrats: :congrats:....same for me.
-
I bought a ctr after my R32... Regretted it so much after 300miles it stayed in the garage till I could sell it... Lost about 2k on it but just wanted rid! Lol
-
I don't see the point in having this sort of argument; as they say opinions are like arseholes, everyone's got one but as long as you're happy with your choice is all that matters. Life would be boring if we were all the same. :happy2:
-
Thanks for the input folks. Just to add, had a honda civic coupe 1.7, engine was relaible and solid but the bodywork literally started falling apart after 7/8 years from a car which i had bought brand new. This is a common thing with Hondas from what I have seen and heard. Have heard good things about the VW build quality so am hoping this is not an issue with my Golf.

we can slate it all day but if you watch these you can see it more than holds up for itself.
If they were to turbo charge the 2.0VTEC engine it would be immense. Few tuners do that already making 300Hp+ and with the amount of revs available that would be pretty awesome

Went up against loads of turboed and charged type-r's in my, k1 revo stage 2 plus and they where still slower.
Id have one for track duty, but for everyday driving no way, too slow.
-
would still take a turbo'd VTEC over the stage 2+ k04. Outright speed isnt everything
-

I wouldnt, the turbo ruins what the type r was best at.
-
IMO the one thing it was missing was torque, the turbo provides it, as well as more power
-
201 lb/ft is less than a golf/vRS etc makes as standard.
-
figures dont matter, its the area under the graph that counts and the type R has an extra 3000rpm to gain that area. Thats the reason it can hold its own with so much less torque when compared standard for standard.
