What do you make of it? I think it looks great....but then I would, as a fan of the previous Beetles im slightly biased. Its nice to see they have brought it upto date with modern engines and gearboxes!
You make up your mind... http://www.vwvortex.com/artman/publish/article_2913.shtml

Not bad, wouldn't buy one though.
Although i do like the instruments on the dashboard in the center, nice!
-
2.0 TSI would be fun especially covered in stick-on flowers.
-
like it :ashamed: but i would :P
-
I like!
2.5T lump in that :signLOL:

i like the oldschool style wheel

Very Scirrcco, which I guess is what it's based on.
-
Back end looks nice inside has rocco about it apart from the extra dash instruments, but I cant help thinking the front looks like a frog thats a sandwich short of a picnic with a vacant smile....
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.vwvortex.com%2Fartman%2Fuploads%2Fbeetle1_002.jpg&hash=db81b26efad3294ba4c80d1563818045492fac44)
I also guess thats an American publicity material and the 2.5L isn't anything exciting......
-
i like that :happy2:
-
Beetle R anyone?
-
That centre dash pod... with Oil Temp, Stopwatch, and Boost... I wonder if it will fit into the air vent location on the Mk5...?

I think the interior is very nice. The exterior I'm not so sure about however. It may grow on me though.
-
Those instruments, if they will transfer to my Rocco, will work very nicely indeed!
-
-
Shocking, not a fan of new style bugs, but there is a Market so each to their own
-
One of my ex's had a Beetle and honest to god it had the worst driver perception I had ever seen, the wing mirrors were to small and the rear view mirror was positioned wrong ! you were almost blind on what was coming from behind !
Onto this one it looks a bit Chrysler ish! but i like it.
I think
-
Not as bad as the last one. With that one they reskinned a Golf and made a stoopider looking, less practical car. At least with the new model I can state that they've reskinned a Scirocco to make a car that is merely an equal to its forebear when it comes to a lack of practicality and good looks!
-
Bizarrely I quite like it. Will reserve judgement until I see it in the flesh though.
-
I really like that! i bet its massively overpriced though! lol
-
Anyone else seeing some Porsche styling in there?
-
Some lovely detailing there, and equally as nice, I think, as it's rivals from Alfa, Mini etc. I've still got feeling that VW are going to have to get their marketing spot on to sell it though.
And yes, I can see it costing an absolute fortune!
-

Yeah big time 993 shape
-
Looks like the Panamera managed to sneak a bit of styling in there too i think
-
.
Subject to seeing in the flesh, I've just fallen in love!
5-cyl 2.5 litre turbo engine? The same as the RS3 and TTRS?
Soooo much better looking than the Scirocco imo and funkier than the Audi TT. This Beetle would modify beautifully, both in performance and cosmetically.
DSG option?
Hmm, it appears the 2.5 litre option isn't turbo'd :sad1:
-
The 2.5L 5cyl is a very old unit which is for the US market only, I suspect because in the US people want displacement over modern, smaller charged-air engines. It's got very little in common with the 5-cylinder units in the TT-RS and the RS3 (which, bizarrely, trace their lineage to Volvo/Ford - think Focus ST - but Volvo/Ford themselves acquired the technology from the original Audi Ur-Quattro 5-cyl) and is a relatively unsophisticated and fuel-hungry engine which is why it's not offered in Europe. It was also offered in the Mk5 Golf.

....Then I've fallen out of love and lust even before our first date.
This Beetle would have really been something with that turbo'd RS3/TTRS engine. But not the sort of car VW ever seem to offer. Okay with our GTI engine though.

Well I imagine we'll get it with the usual range of EA888 1.4/1.6/2.0TSI engines we've come to love (and I'd guess the 2.0TDI as well). Apparently (according to an Autoblog ticker I just read) a Beetle R is confirmed too, and that's almost certainly going to have the 2.0 TFSI EA113 out of the Scirocco/Golf R I'd guess.
-
^^^^
Although older, isn't the EA113 reputed to be 'stronger' than the EA888?

That's why EA113 is in all the R/S four cylinder lineup. I suspect EA888 could be made as strong but would require some development effort (and $$$) and for "halo" models of what are essentially cheap cars* which are increasingly difficult to sell it's probably not worth the expenditure.
*cheap compared to the £80k+ you'd be spending on a Carrera or up.
-
this is growing on me, i reckon slammed and tsi stage 2 that would be fun
rear lights have a hint of bentley continental about them
pitty they didn't do the straight window line on the doors liked the concept which was super aggressive

Great finds, Mat and Marky :happy2:
I'm liking it more and more. I guess that the 2.0 turbo'd petrol version could be nice and fast.
EA113 or EA888 I wonder? Probably the newer EA888 nowadays.
-
Looks like they have made the dash smaller, the last one was big enough to get a set of decks on.
When I worked for VW I had a few of these, but only because they were so new, I'll leave it to the girls from now on. :pomppomp:

The NEW Beetles are a girls car, end of. That's the reason I'd never get one. Older ones are a differant story.
-
yeah and BMW 1 series are ugly but still people buy em :rolleye:

Oh hang on! I see you've got one of those

That made me laugh! Just my opinion but it's got a flower on the dash! Don't get me wrong I like the old style ones, matted30's looks great.

....Oh yes, I forgot about the flower! - Probably why my daughter wanted one when she was younger.

Mat's is probably the very nicest old one I've seen :notworthy:. But I also like this new one too if tastefully modified and with some performance additions too. Lots of potential.
-
^^^^ agreed. This new one has a much more mean look and stance. Very promising, I'd like to see one in the flesh :happy2:
