Title: Exhaust warning light is on but NOT flashing.
Post by: serpico on April 22, 2011, 12:17:15 am
Just noticed this. The manual advises to get it checked out asap. Any ideas what could be the problem.
Bought it back in September from a main dealer with 28500 miles 06 plate now done in excess 50000, just had a long life service.
Have searched this website re type of petrol that should be used. General consensus suggests that it is best to use Super Unleaded for max perfomance but can use unleaded. On the petrol flap it does state to use Super Unleaded but have to admit that due to costs have been using normal unleaded.
Any reliable non main dealers in the Greater London,Essex,Ilford area you could suggest.
Thanks

See if any members with vcds are in your area to do a scan to narrow down the problem.

I dont know who should take the credit but I def read this on one of the threads here. Was advised to turn the petrol cap so that it would click three times. This didnt work so I removed the petrol cap and then clicked it three times. IT WORKED!!!!!! Light has gone out and this has saved me loads of time and hassle especially with all these bank holidays. Many thanks.
Is it ok to use premium unleaded despite using normal for the last 7 months as my GTI is not performing to full capacity?

98/99 RON petrol is the preferred fuel option for a gti. There should be no issue from switching from premium (95 Ron) to super unleaded (98/99 RON).
