I need another battery for my MacBook Pro as the 2nd one has now failed.
£92 from Apple for a genuine one but does anybody have experience of the £30-£50 copies?
Or does anybody know where I can procure a genuine one a bit cheaper?
Cheers.

Yep, the copies are absolute sh*te, as opposed to just sh*te.
I've just got the "Service Battery Now" message now, which I'm guessing translates to "give Apple £90 for a new battery".

I bought a genuine second hand one last year and it lasted about 9 months for £30.
The guys laptop had been stolen and he had a spare he had used rarely.
I was fairly pleased but none about now and it was a risk.
All the ones on eBay have a years warranty so may risk it, its only £27.
Reading the reviews on the Apple website even the £92 are sh*te.

Have you calibrated the battery? I did this recently on mine and the health status jumped from 76% to 93%

Not saying that will definately cure it but it may male it last a bit longer whilst you hunt for one. :happy2:

Thanks Carl I am well beyond that.
If I unplug it just dies which means I had to install Snow Leopard again as it had somehow corrupted my HD.
Just need a battery now so will probably plump for a copy.

I had a so called 'genuine' one from eBay
Turned out to be a refurbed OE battery and held charge for less than an hour
In the end, lumped the £85 from apple and bought a genuine battery - 6 hours charge instead of under an hour!
The copy batteries on ebay, especially for apple, are really poor quality due to the specific type of Lithium Polymer technology apple employ in the battery cells, that other manufacturers struggle to get right.
If you know someone with Uni/Work discount, you can get up to 18% off that price
Also to add... Depending on how old that new battery is, Apple may well replace it under warranty FOC

I would never put any cheap second best hardware in my MBP it is my life and my work lol. I had to buy a new power pack the other day and glad I spent the money on a real one than tempt disaster with a copy. Apple stuff is expensive because it uses the best materials made by the best manufacturers. You know what your getting with apple and its best left that way.

Apple will only replace batteries under warranty if its done less that 300 cycles, mines done nearly 600!

I don't entirely agree but I know where you coming from.
I could list a lot of things Apple have made recently which have been of dubious quality starting with the early iPhone 4's.
The A1175 battery has terrible reviews on the Apple website product page.
It barely lasts a year and for £92 its a rip off.
Some people have not even got 6 months.
My Macbook is old so tbh I think ill risk it as £27 is not too much and I may get a new Mac next year anyway.
I get the work discount too VIA epp but hardly makes a difference and its upto 18% not always that.
