I don't know about you but anyone who can stump a building full of Japanese geeks for 5 days needs to be given a job! :grin:
Sooo glad i don't play any games online over PSN. They are not very forthcoming with any information either.

I know - it's a complete PITA. The only consolation is the fact that I really don't need distractions at the moment, so it's helping me to focus. But if it remains down after the next bank holiday, there will be hell to pay!

Don't know where I read/heard but apparently they are having to rebuild the system completely!
I imagine its quite a large server!
I imagine some data will be lost too?

According to Sony it's the work of "outside" interference.
The group "Anonymous" have denied responsibility as they have tried to hack it before.

never understood this hacking, they do it to get at big corp's but its only end users who suffer?

Nobody has come forward and said it was them and usually they like to tell everyone how good they are.
It could be just a massive failure.
But then again usually the people hacking are also the people playing so probably don't want to piss their mates off!

Apparently it's because of an "intrusion" that Sony voluntarily pulled down the network and still have not got it up :chicken: rumours abound of user data being stolen but nothing confirmed.

Sony thinks an “unauthorized person” now has access to all PlayStation Network account information and passwords, and may have obtained users’ credit card numbers.
The PlayStation maker said it believes hackers now have access to customers’ vital information, including names, birthdates, physical and e-mail addresses, and PlayStation Network/Qriocity passwords, logins, handles and online IDs.
Credit card information, purchase histories and other profile data stored on the PlayStation Network servers also could be compromised, the Japanese company said in a lengthy blog post Tuesday afternoon.

My advice to anyone that has used a credit card on the pSN store woul dbe to get in touch with your card holder, cancel the current card and get it re-issued due to the breach. It's just not worth the risk and additional hassle of having claims to then deal with.

So glad I don't use my card info on PSN or XBL... Only downside is that I can't go online on PS3 and my 360 has decided to start freezing within 5mins of start up but no RRoD but well out of warrenty so need a new xbox

They shouldn't have been. Did you use the same email address as for PSN for those two things?

Looks very likely that Sony made the mistake believing that the link between the server and the PS3 was secure and and didn't put any security in :surprised:

Updated my playstation to version 3.61 this morning, then tried logging in, asking me to reset my password via my PC now!, so looks like it may be working guys and girls!

Yeah its been back since sunday.
I wouldnt get your hopes up about the two free games though, they are shocking -

Wipeout HD/Fury
Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty
Dead Nation.
I would have been happier with a discount off the price of the next call of duty or fifa.

standard playstation, giving you 2 free games worth less then £25 for not offering online gaming for a month. tbh as psn is free its hard to hold a grudge had it been xbl i'd of turned over Bill Gates myself
