Title: Dealer obtaining RNS security code
Post by: Lyons on April 27, 2011, 12:54:27 pm
Anyone ever had to obtain the 4 digit security code from a dealer? Do they just do it through the computer when the unit is installed, or can they do it with the unit on their bench just?

G'day

They can do it with just the unit on the bench.

Usually they want toi forms of ID to be able to do this ( V5 and your drivers licence )

It takes them less than 10mins to do, and it's usually free

Cheers

Though, to note, if the unit flags up as being stolen (as some RNS510s are), they will not give you the radio code no matter how hard you try

Brilliant news, i thought it had to be installed. Any idea if a VW dealer could get the code from a Skoda unit!? And do they need 2 forms if ID even if I bought the unit second hand?

This all sounds very dodgy I know, but it's a genuine unit and the owner could verify it, but it would just be easier without all that!

You may have to see a skoda dealer for that, but its possible as they are all one big company

Often, to prove ownership - it really depends on the dealership

The dealers do not plug the RNS in to any thing, they take the serial number off the side of the unit and send it to germany, it usually take a couple of days, once they have it back the advice you of it once you give the proof of ownership.

Or you can give it a new pin

You need the RNS service software tool for that though.

The Columbus will have a number which begins SKZxxxxxxxxx

They'll need that number and the chassis number.  It used to be done via Skoda Desktop and it was instant, I see no reason why it should be any different now.
