My car seems to have developed a noise which is really quite annoying as its loud.
My best description of the noise: high pitched(ish) squeak/squeal that is audible from the centre of the engine.
Basically it seems to happen whenever I let off the accelerator completely, it's louder at slower speeds and lower gears (I'm guessing its because I'm going faster so more road noise).
At first It seemed like it was doing it when using the clutch so initial thoughts were the release bearing.
I'll get a video recording posted up as soon as possible as that will probably help a million.

Check that the plastic attached to the intake at the front of the car hasn't come away and is rubbing on the radiator fan assembly.

I'll go check that now, thanks for the suggestion. I hope it is something as simple as that!

Yeah I'm 100% sure, as you can hear that as a separate noise. The piping and the front air intake and airbox is intact and is clear of the fan assembley.
Wasn't even sure the TDI's had a DV tbh. But I definitely do get a whoosh from the turbo dumping the air which isn't nearly as loud as this noise.

Thats an odd noise. sounds like metal chafing. Could be a mount?

I'm not much of a mechanical person but, I presume the mount is something to do with the arm/suspension or at least something near down there?
Guessing it's a case of getting it on ramp or jacking it up.

Just took it for a spin with father and he seems to think its one of the lower mounts, started rocking the engine backwards/forwards manually and it did the noise. If your looking at your engine from front it was on the lower right hand side.
Any recommendations on what to try to do to stop the noise? Or is it best to replace the mount itself

Sounds like the transmission mount may have gone "bad".
Could be a good time to upgrade your transmission and engine mounts... :evilgrin:

I presume the location I described is the transmission mount? :D It could be yeah, although I have no idea what the advantages are and how much they cost!
I was hoping my along the lines of, take it off and clean it up and lube it and hope the noise goes haha

The metal mount has vulcanised rubber internally that contains viscous oil on the inside for damping. The oil sometimes start to leak out reducing the damping capability.
