Title: Hedge's New Wheels - The Czech Machine
Post by: Hedge on April 28, 2011, 10:42:55 pm
Picked it up today early thanks to the dealer. Some pics for your perusal.

There are plans afoot which some of you know about R32 front brakes, S3 arms and hubs + Colombus(RNS 510) for now and maybe more later.

Not at the moment Stealth I will do some tomorrow. The steering wheel is ace though.

It has Bluetooth, Xenons, front and rear parking sensors which come up as Optical Parking on the Bolero radio and hopefully the Columbus when it arrives, heated part leather seats and that's about it.

These are ace, although I think I would colour code the chrome grill and lower it 30mm to finish it off.

Great colour choice don't think I have seen one of the face lift cars in that colour before  :drinking:

Yep

2.0 TSi pumping out the same power etc. Although Skoda have to advertise it as 200ps rather than 210ps. :stupid:

The 2.5 engine despite having more coilpacks than a 4Pot, is glorious.....................

So  :angry015:

Can pop a coilpack in the post to you Ian?  But you won't get the sound............................

Very nice Mr Hedge. Did you get rid of the fridge? And, importantly, are you going to get big wheels? I bet you could get 20s under that arch :ashamed:

Like the colour, as others do, but the rest don't do a lot for me.  :ashamed:

Didn't Skoda vRS models used to have green brake calipers, or did I imagine that?

White shirt, black epaulettes, a hi-viz jacket on the rear shelf and 65mph in the inside lane should do the trick.

So I've done 300 or so miles since picking it up on Thursday and it feels very grown up compared to the pre-facelift Mk2. The ride is very similar to my previous Golf's in that it is firm but well damped.
It feels a nice place to be, which is handy.

I had only planned to run the .:R for a year or so and I do too many miles to justify keeping it, Skoda had their tax free petrols offer out so I jumped ship.

Looks great Ian. I have an Octy in the same colour in estate flavour at the moment. Only a 1.6 MPI but fully loaded. It's quite torquey too in stark contrast to the asthmatic MkVI I had few weeks ago.

Looking forward to seeing this in the metal.

She is a completely different car but not excessively.

So KW v1's, S3 arms, S3 hubs, R32 fronts and a Milltek.

She is real good now although all was not plain sailing. I had failed to supply all the bits for the new hubs namely 2 nuts which I believe was pointed out to me but I missed. :ashamed:
The R32 fronts do not fit under OEM Octavia vRS wheels.  :fighting:
Some missing suspension bits.

All of this has been overcome thanks to the staff @ JKM and their understanding.  :notworthy: :notworthy:

The only real showstopper was the nuts which came from Milton Keynes this morning.
The R32 fronts met Mr angle grinder. Mr angle grinder won.
The missing KW bumpstops and dust covers are on order and will be fitted as and when.

She now drives and rides like a dream. A touch firmer than OEM but without the roll. I'm really pleased.  :happy2: :happy2:

The EOS ones Stealth? Yup thought about it but don't really have funds currently.

If I buy any wheels it will either be Speedline Corsa's or at a push TD 1.2's.

im still tempted to get one of these and give the wife the fabia.  Miss the octavia and judging by jims ids of his vRS on the trackday even with stage 1 its bloody quick.

Are you going to go for stage 2 or just leave it at stage 1.  Carl seems to think he will, not sure who hes kidding though

I wasnt going to go the coilovers this time but since the fabia handles like a wet sock i think ill go for some V1s as well.

Had a look at the spec of the AMD BTCC golf  and that runs 2 way adjustable KW coilovers as well

The Hankook Icebears of win have finally been fitted.  :happy2:

Same size as standard on a set of pre-facelift OEM wheels (Zeniths). No pichurs as it's pitch black. Initial impressions are fine but apparently they need a bit of gentle scrubbing in before they give their best.

They also reset the suspension and stood the rears up so they are back to -1.5 degrees.  :driver:
Title: Re: Hedge's New Wheels - The Czech Machine
Post by: Hedge on December 02, 2011, 09:27:10 pm
Also put some Philips Silvervision indicator bulbs in the front and some Halfords Ultra Brilliance Car Bulb in the main beams.

Easier than the pre-facelift as most of my knuckles still have skin on.

Initial impressions are good but time will tell if it's anything more than a placebo.

IIRC they creak.

Is that not one of the drawbacks of deviating from standard spec, e.g. creaking, groaning, vibration and extra noises that weren't there before etc...???

Excellent choice of new rimmage Mr Hedge  :happy2:

May I be as bold to suggest some cheeky 10mm ish rear spacers to give her a little extra junk in the trunk?

These have been ok(ish) except for the fecked cap that holds the damper in. No extra noise.

The brand new ones I bought on the other hand were completely fecked almost from day 1 and the reply I received from my complaint letter really takes the biscuit. So much in fact that KW will never ever grace any of my cars once I finish with the current ones.

Looking good Ian, I'm glad to see you've decided against putting the wheel on the wall.  :happy2:

I only wanted the extra one because one wasn't straight but a nice man with a nice machine straightened it for me.  :happy2:
