Found this apparent bargain, can someone advise if it will be suitable ?
If got a 2005(55), my06 gti, no idea which can gateway is installed at present but it will need upgrading if I'm to get a snazzy rns 510 version c.

That would work, but youll pay import tax and a healthy shipping fee to get it here
I got my new one from here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CANGATEWAY-1K0907530AA-CAN-GATEWAY-RNS-510-RCD-510-/170601532805?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_GPSSystems_GPSSystems&hash=item27b8a4cd85#ht_3131wt_1141 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CANGATEWAY-1K0907530AA-CAN-GATEWAY-RNS-510-RCD-510-/170601532805?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_GPSSystems_GPSSystems&hash=item27b8a4cd85#ht_3131wt_1141)

Alex, it states on the ebay listing that its not just a simple case of plug and play.
"WARNING! Replacement of CAN BUS GATEWAY is not easy plug and play case.
VAG COM reprogramming is required after exchange - it is only way to make it work"
VAG COM reprogramming, what on earth is that and how would i go about doing it?

You cannot simply swap the units over. They need to be programmed.
Basically you copy down all of the settings from the old can and then input them into the new can. You need VCDS to do this.
-
As stealthy says, the new one needs to be coded to match the settings on your existing can gateway in order for everything to function properly
Youll need someone with VCDS - alot of us on here have it - have a look in the VCDS/VAGCOM section at the list and find someone local to you and get in touch :happy2:
