Title: Greetings from a newbie
Post by: Megy_ED30 on April 29, 2011, 10:31:36 am
Hello all,

I have just bought myself a GTi ED30, picking it up tomorrow, and been advised this is one of the better forums so I have just registered and so now saying hello.

Looking forward to getting the car and seeing how it goes, I am sure fun times lay ahead of me, and looking to maybe mod it in a good way, so any hints and tips wouldnt go amiss.

Ian

Not sure whats standard or optional on it, and only seen it a couple of times so not overly familiar with it yet.

Its metallic grey and is a DSG boxed 3 door car.

Well I picked the car up earlier and have had a bit of fun since, not sure how it compares to the Impreza yet, but first impressions are very good.

Anyway, here is a (phone) photo of said car.

Only downside so far is the stereo, a massive let down to a cool car.

Don't worry about the stereo - the speakers and HU can be upgraded.

Have already started to look into this, and seen a Sony head unit I quite fancy, looking through the stereo section on here it doesn't sound as easy as it has been in previous cars, do you know much about changing stereos etc?  I have an armrest iPod connector that I will want to utilise but getting confuddled with talk of cans and all the different leads etc.

Yes, I have the 300, sound doesn't seem to be too bad really but the unit itself is pretty dire.

The RNS 510 looks good but I am not really after a unit with Sat Nav, but need bluetooth and iPod.

I think I need to post on the stereo section with my specific questions re fitment etc, there does seem to be a few with some useful knowledge on there (wonder if ay will be local to Edinburgh).

Cheers,

Did I see in another section you are local to me (Dunfermline)?  If so, any meets or get togethers around and about?

Rcd510 then if your not looking for the sat nav option

Certainly looks good and ticks most of the boxes, but, bluetooth is a seperate option which makes it a much pricier option.  It does appear the iPod connection I have will fit straight in, and I cant find out if the one I have in the armrest has a USB plug on it for an aftermarket unit.
