I have not seen anything like this in the uk, and although the colour is not to my taste it is a pretty amazing car its got air ride, arch extensions recaro interior re-trimmed and as you can see some pretty amazing old school rims.
Is no one wanting to have a discussion about it. i say big props to the guy, i reckon those arches will start a new trend and a lot more wheels could now be fitted as before most arch extensions dont look to hot. :happy2:

i love the way the front arch has been flared but wasnt keen on the rear arch, the wheels were splendid :drool: as was the rest of the car, :drool:

The lights were Grey at the front which is neither standard Golf or GTI :confused: Maybe he has painted them?

There are so many small details on it that have been done and I couldn't spot where a single corner had been cut in it's build. The colour maybe an aquired taste, but then so are most colours.

This thing is fookin amazing. I love everything about it, there must have been some serious money gone into it! I am not a big fan of the colour but if you can get over that it is awesome. All the detail that has gone into it is remarkable, one of the cars of the show IMO :drool: :drool:

Car is obviously a GTI as mentioned 260 bhp ish prob more now :grin:

Lights were replaced from local VW dealers, i didnt even notice they were slightly different :signLOL: not sure if i like them or not now, need to pop outside and have a look.

Front aches were cut along the curv then plated to pull them some 3 inches.

Rears were a Drivers front arch on the pass rear and passengers front on the drivers rear keeps the line of the arches pretty much spot on and gets em out 3 inches as well.

Motec custom map

replaced loads of bits and bobs with new parts along the way, lights, glass etc

Even from just the pics I can see it's been extremely well done and very high quality. But I hate that extreme slammed look and very strongly disapprove of any Dub being debadged.

Metallic Golden Urine colour, but I like it. Upholstery looks fabulous.

So overall I'm very undecided. Each to their own 8)

This will be the most important, talked about and copied MKV for a good while. Which is good in some respects as it gives the MKV a much needed shove in the ass... but in much the same way as I'm sick of the sight of brown already this year, because of the cloning, it'll become "ordinary" pretty soon. People need to get their own ideas instead of buying a generic "scene recipe" car to win shows - love it or hate it, this isn't safe for sure and sets the bar!!

I appreciate show cars like art, not for their every day functionality.

....That describes it perfectly! The trouble is that personally I can't get my head around building a car which doesn't have every day functionality - The joy of driving is then totally lost.

When I was in the bike racing scene (bicycle, not motorbike) it used to really piss us off when some people just used a state-of-the-art bike as a wall ornament. Earl March (Goodwood's owner) pissed me off greatly I remember! Cars/bikes are for driving/riding imo.

Post by: NB07 on March 09, 2009, 10:32:21 pm: amazing work mate really liking this. beautiful show car. obviously wouldnt drive it every day (wouldn't want to damage anything) but it looks proper trick i remember my dear uncle having a similar styled mk1 back in the late eighties and ever since i have been wanting to have the time n money to do something similar, just remember rolling up to his house and at the weekends he always rolled it out onto the drive so everyone could see it but even as a kid i remember thinking "unk, these peeps don't appreciate it as much as us!" cant wait until i can get a garage and have a project like this :happy2:

X5pea, any info on the arches, I read the explanation of how you had them done, but any chance of telling us who did them for you as it would be very helpful for me, been looking to get a similar amount of arch extension on mine for quite some time!

What is the handling like, with your very different suspension, i am guessing its a fare bit heavier with it being on bags.
And also can you explain a bit about how it raises and lower's i have never seen one in operation. I understand the principle of how air ride works, i was thinking stuff like how long does it take to go from top to bottom, can you alter it on the move stuff like that. :drinking:

It handles pretty well front struts are dampening adjustable, rears were used from my coilover kit so are a good bit stiffer. If you have the bags highly inflated then the ride is rather harsh.
