Hmm, is you car an import?
The lack of the B pillar switch suggests your car doesn't have an internal ultrasonic sensor.

Sit in and move about. Wait 30 seconds though, as the alarm is not ready until then.

There are the buttons at the base of the b pillar and over on passenger side top of B pillar there will be a ultrasonic sensor sticking out of the head lining, if you dont have the buttons for the tilt and ultra sonic and you dont have sensors then you dont have an alarm.  you can also lock the car with a door open and then use the handle to open the door oposite I had passenger open doing some work accidently locked the car then opened the driver door and alram went off.

could also affect insurance if you didnt declare import and so insurance think car is alarmed.

Does it have a space saver spare wheel? Non-UK spec cars didn't come with one.

Stand your ground when you see the dealer, after all you pay a premium when buying from them so the car has to be right

My car is an EU import and it was priced cheaper than other ED30's with equivalent mileage and it meant I got 18' Monza instead of Pescara, space saver etc = but I was not aware at time it had no alarm.

how easy are they ro retro fit - Eddie NL - do you fit them?

I was going to try it on wilcoman's golf, but he has decided to get VW to take his car back.

I think it is possible and not to difficult.
you would need

Alarm horn
interior sensors
Inclination sensor (this can be a part of a combi interior monitor
Button for deactivation
Loom

where abouts are you Berg?
