Title: Door Locks
Post by: seckles on May 03, 2011, 04:40:08 pm
HI,

My rear passenger door lock is playing up and often doesn't unlock at all. My local dealer wants £200 to fit a new one, so I was wondering if I could do it myself?

Does anyone know if it's a relatively easy job to do? Is it just a simple straight swap? Would it need any VCDS coding after fitting the new lock?

My car is a (late) 2007 ED30. Would any MK5 rear lock do or are there specific one(s) for a GTI and/or MY08 car? E.g would this do [ebay]230600546399[/ebay]

Anyone know of any guides/how-tos/links etc that might help?

Any help would be much appreciated  :happy2:

Cheers

Steve

iirc you'll need to remove the outer skin (involves removal of a few bolts) to get to the lock itself. I would wait for someonemore technical to confirm my hypothesis before starting.

And I can't see why you'll need vcds coding on replacement.

Cheers, Thanks for that. Removing the outer skin sounds a bit scary :scared:  I've removed the inner door cards before tho so is it a simple case of removing a few bolts from there?

Anyone else got any other help/suggestions on my original lock questions?

Thanks

Steve

definately an outer skin job, supposedly very easy on the MK5 but not sure I like the idea myself, as for the lock itself the door controller system changed in 2006 to using different cabling and pin out not sure if this will have affected the locking mechanism itself but worth avoiding 2006 2007 parts and go for 2008 era.
