Ive handed over my centre section of my engine cover (as its no longer an airbox) to be Carbon Dipped, anyone tried this? post pics if you have any of anything which you have had done.
Cheers

I've seen a vid of this being done, very clever process :happy2:
-
Not had anything done but my mate used to carbon dip alloys, it's a great process you will be really really chuffed!
-
I will post pics up when its done.....this guy does alloys too
-
.
The AeroCatches on my painted real carbonfibre bonnet are false carbon finish - Are they dipped?

Yeah i reckon RR, look really neat though.

.
I think that carbon dipping is very effective indeed and can even fool folks into thinking it's real...... Except if it's seen side-by-side with the real thing.
-
can tbis be done on all plastic?
like dash parts? is it more effective than wrapping.....or can it be scratched/marked easy?

....Yes, can be done on plastic. My AeroCatches are a type of plastic.
Carbon vinyl looks much better imo on interior trim as it's softer looking and the carbon dip finish looks much harder and colder in appearance. The vinyl carbon also has texture whereas the dipped carbon doesn't.

Matsu had his grille done this way and it looks great for it.
(and that's coming from me who isn't a big carbon fan at all!)
-

you can get 3M stuff and its easy to do yourself.. sometimes a bit fiddly but depends what you are doing. check the Bay.. :happy2:

.
Btw, folks, I wouldn't recommend using the vinyl anywhere in your engine bay - It gets mighty hot in there! At best it will lift off and at worst could catch fire!

Actually, Di-Noc is pretty heat resistant. They did some durability testing in the labs and left it at 65*C for a month with no deformation or discolouration. I'll check with the technical guys what it can with stand.

....Is Di-Noc the carbon vinyl which most folks commonly use?
I'd also be concerned about the adhesive keeping it stuck down when subjected to great heat.

I just bought a load of the 3M Di-Noc vinyl and its highly recommended by the wrapping company near me :happy2:

When can you do mine??

-
Looks awesome! How much did that set you back then?
-
£70 just for the Fsi Turbo centre piece but you have to take it off yourself
-
Do they do all the prep. work?
So from grey FSI section to what youve got for 70 quid?
-
Yep absolutely, all you have to do Mr.W is take the thingy off (which just involves melting/grinding two tabs off to release the cover) the hardest part is getting the badge off with messing it up (just go carefully)
-
^^^^
That looks excellent and much better than carbon vinyl.
-
I do not see the fascination with CF but I think I have to say that this looks the business! Well done ! Touch of class! :congrats:
-
Thanks ''no golf clubs'' and ''RR'', i was well chuffed considering its a fraction of the price of the REAL deal you have, (which apparently is no longer available from OSIR :sad1:)
-
That looks very professional. Great job. :happy2:
-
Looks fantastic. Love it. If only there was a place that does this kind of thing in Birmingham :sad1:
-
Mate that looks ace!
Exactly what I'm getting done too. And few extra bits too....all hush hush lol.
I'm going to pitstop as they are not that far from me!
